I bought a new boat this spring, it's just a small 14'6 inch fishing boat with a 30hp Mercury 4 stroke on it. I've been having issues the last 2 weekends I've used it. A couple weeks ago I had it out and when I would open it full throttle it was like it was only half throttle, wouldn't plane the boat out and was only moving about 7 mph. Took it to the dealer and they said it was in limp mode for some reason, they said they reset it and it should work fine. So I get it out this weekend and the same issue again. Anyone experienced that or have any ideas? It starts fine and trolls like a dream but if you want to get somewhere in a hurry you're SOL! Very frustrating, that motor should be pushing that little boat at least 20mph IMO.

Yeah it's going back to the dealer today. It's a brand new motor. Seems like it's a throttle linkage problem or something. Runs fine just doesn't seem to open up fully for whatever reason. Now I remember why I hate Merc's!

I have 2 mercury motors on my boat, the previous boat had one too.

If I ever upgrade, it will not be mercury motors pushing my fat ass around.

We(father and I) have had great service from out Mercs over the years. I think each manufacturer has a sweet spot in their lineup...and issues with others.
