I can sleep pretty good if the room is cool and quiet. The biggest thing that gets me is noise. I sleep pretty well, but light. Getting descent exercise and avoiding alcohol will give a guy the most restful sleep. If I feel like I need a sleep aid, I use melatonin. It is the natural hormone that makes you sleepy. The only downside I have experienced is that it won't keep you asleep for a full night if you are experiencing sleeplessness. It sure makes me fall asleep and doesn't give me fog head, though.

P.S. It also gives some ultra vivid dreams at times. Kinda fun, if they aren't too far out there.

I always looked at sleep as a waste of time myself. ;)

We have a little bluetooth speaker in our bedroom that is linked up to one of our phones. We have a "rain" sound that just continuously loops throughout the night.
I think this would make me pee the bed more than I already do. Exercise or stretching before bed works pretty good when I do it, I am usually just too tired to exercise though:)

I agree that that stuff gives you some crazy dreams. They are very vivid.

I am fairly certain this will win the internet today….still laughing….

maximum strength Mucinex DM works!!! 12 hour dose take at 6pm and 6am...then Aleve PM for sleeping issues at bedtime...breathe fright strips work wonders too if your nose is really plugged up ... substitute a shot or two of blackberry brandy for the Aleve PM...the blackberry brandy will help you sleep better however the Aleve works wonders for those aches and pains you get when you’re sick...remember Tylenol and ibuprofen are completely different pain relievers and can be taken interchangeably every two hours if need be if they are four hour doses...Tylenol for fever and ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory...
I have used nyquill on occasion too, however when I get sick it is usually settled into my lungs and sinus...nyquill along with alot of over-the-counter combination medications have a lot of crap in them you don't need...it takes me like 20 minutes every time I go to the drug store I look at all the active ingredients and dosages and usually only try to buy the ones that treat my exact symptoms...

I use my outdoor hot tub nearly every single night. Unless the wind is howling, or it's raining buckets. Summer/winter, doesn't matter. Nearly every night I spend at least 15 minutes out there.

I likely would never have bought a tub, but it came with the house. Now I'm hooked. When it dies, I'll have to go buy one.

Alternately, a hot shower or bath before crawling into a cool bed, is wonderful. I usually am asleep before my head hits the pillow. I realize now, after reading this thread, how lucky I am to sleep well.

As far as getting my brain to shut off, I am lucky to have no troubles. Most days, it never even turns on.

I am so thankful that I have never actually been drunk.

I used to be a light sleeper. Now that I'm getting a little longer in the tooth I sleep like a baby. It's awesome. But up at 5:30-6:00 every day regardless of bed time. As wags mentioned that really sucks when you've stayed up late and partied.

Well another night of shift sleep,1 hour12am to 1am,then alkaseltzer plus and some low xmas music until 3am last I looked, then down until 7am,so I guess 5 to 6 hours total lately is better than no sleep.Oh and my therm drops to 53degrees@ 10pm,like the house chilly when in sleep mode, fireplace keeps the house temp in low 60's until I shut it down for the night.

You are lucky , I am usually good for about 3 or 4 hours at a time then I wake up and have to get up and move around so I pretty much go to bed twice a night. I used to sleep on my back like Eyexer but Omar the tent maker kept waking up and throwing the covers on the floor .

We have a little bluetooth speaker in our bedroom that is linked up to one of our phones. We have a "rain" sound that just continuously loops throughout the night. My wife has been a cruddy sleeper ever since we met. Went to the Dr. last week and they told her to try the rain sounds and has worked very well for her. The trick to it is to find something that is strictly rain or running water or whatever. No birds chirping or anything like that, just the sound of the water. Also, we have our thermostat set to drop the temperature of the whole house down to 64 at night, that helps both of us sleep.
While I don't buy into the "I need a $60 pillow to sleep well", I am a firm believer that a new pillow every few months drastically improves my sleep. If I have to fold my pillow to get comfortable, it's time for a new one. The other indicator that it's time for a new pillow for me is if I start waking up with headaches or if I wake up with a sore neck.
As for being sick, my wife has had the same hacking/mucousy coughing pressure in the head sickness for the last month+. She went to the Dr. and they told her she has a sinus infection. Netti pot (or something like it) and I think some meds and she'll get over it.

If your even slightly overweight and have a hard time getting good sleep, maybe look into having a sleep study done. My wife forced me to have one done a few years ago because I snored so bad and I would stop breathing in my sleep (sometimes for pretty extended amounts of time). After having the study done I was issued a cpap machine and I'm so glad I have it now. The sleep I get is of much better quality and my wife is happy because I don't snore. It took a bit of getting used to, but now if I sleep without it, I feel like shit. Absolutely worth the investment.

I'm afraid that if I had the sound of water running all night I'd be up every hour to take a leak.

i sleep very sound.
have a few beers and i eat supper right before i go to bed( usually about 9 30-10). i sleep with a bedside fan blowing in my face 365 days a year. yes, i bring it with on my coyote hunting trips when staying in motels.
i'm usually asleep within 1 minute of hitting the sack.

i used to have a hard time sleeping and even falling asleep cuz i worried to much about things anbd my mind would race something terrible.
now, as i get older/calmer, i don't worry about stuff much anymore..
