I caught my first ever fish with a lamprey attached to it. I was super surprised they are scary looking. I released it back as its a native species to the area that I fish. Have you guys ever caught any fish with lamprey attached to them ??

I've caught walleyes on the Rainy with them. They get a major squeeze to the head with a plier when removed. Hate those things.

I'd save it, keep it alive, then find a way to sneak it into Wags' minnow bucket.

Caught a walleye with one attached to it on the Red Lake River by Crookston about 10-12 years ago. Was probably half the size of that one. I believe they are native to the Red River watershed. If I remember correctly the native ones don't cause harm to the fish.

yeah from what I have read on them they don't kill the host fish.

They are pretty thick in Lake Champlain, the local water, tree, and invasives protectors would rather have them in the ecosystem than using lampricide. Last time I fished Champlain, we found them on perch, smallies and salmon

I wonder how they taste?

pretty common in Russia I think. They pickle damn near everything so maybe that's the way to go. Seems like one of the weird food guys on tv was out catching them in Oregon on an episode I saw. Don't remember how they cooked them though.

As far as eating goes I believe you guys are confusing lamprey and Eel. I know the eat the shit out of eel in Europe. Also there are big eel spawning runs in NW US and people trap them and sell.
