Could also argue that fly fishing can be the cheapest. A 5wt rod and a pair of waders can get you effectively fishing a lot of world class trout streams. I'm going on a week long trip to ID in June and i wont even spend $500, most of that will be gas money.
Just like spinning gear, you get what you pay for. I'm in the camp that chooses not to fish with a wobbly piece of crap that feels like a log in hand. But like everything else in this dumbass thread, I say to each his own and don't worry so much about keeping up with the Joneses

I find small wood/smoke grilled trout to be amazing.

i am not a big trout/salmon guy but i found a rub to make and then bake them in cast iron with a little bacon fat and i love it. Then i make an avocado salsa to top it with damn i am now hungry

I had some fresh Sakakwea salmon for the first time this year and they were great. After everything i had heard i was really surprised how good they were. Amazing smoked as well. I do need to try trout again and have been tempted to order it a few times out west.

Lay the fillet meat side up over an upside down bowl. That makes the tips of the pin bones easier to find. Grab a good pair of tweezers or a clean set of forceps. Get to pulling. Takes a little extra time, but man is it worth it. They run about 2/3 of the length of the fillet, starting at the head end

i have a bunch of cabelas trolling combos i let the kids use to pull bb as then we know who lets out 300 ft of line vs the 20 we need in 12 feet of water and it seems to keep there interest longer with numbers on the reels. when we are really going we look like a porcupine coming down the lake i think the most rods we have had out at one time time is 13. you need 3 adults one to drive one to un hook fish and bait hooks and one to keep handing beers out when it really gets crazy

wouldn't the wet spot be near the bow?

No, had to see if the yamaha pro50 would fire up. Should have done it in the summer, the cloud of blue smoke would have killed an entire generation of mosquitos
