Ok when ATT purchased Direct TV I knew I was going to get screwed sooner or later. They emailed us a new contract of 13 pages.

Because of the cost ($79.05 per month) and we really only use the TV at the Angle very little we decided we would suspend our service earlier this year. So I called and got an english speaking foreign person. She asked if I could make her out I replied yes but told her there is a lot of background noise. She said she was sorry but there are over 600 people in the call center. Then I was told I could NOT suspend the account unless my payment was current which it was as the payment was not due until Sept. 9th. After talking to 3 different people and 24 minutes later I THINK it is taken care of.

I have been with directv for about 8 years now.... my contract is up in June and the day it is up in will be cancelling my service.. either Hulu or Sling will get my money. They both have all the channels we watch and are around the $35/month mark. My directv Bill was $150/ month and 95% of the channels they offer we have never watched....

Yup. Has happened to me twice now. I even had the local cable scheduled to come before cancelling in an attempt to help me resist their tactics. Didn't work.

Just yesterday I was dooped for another 12mo! Dropped to the lowest level and a monthly cut in pricing from $120/mo to $49/mo, plus I'll get the sports package and HBO/Cinemax combo free for six months. I wanted to move to online streaming only, but I guess I can wait until next August, since they have me on voice recording saying 'yes'. ;:;banghead

I thought I'd be fine without the damn DVR, but maybe I should look at one from Amazon by next summer.

We just dumped DirectTv and went to sling tv. They have a couple packages ranging from $20-$40 a month. We have the $25 package but also use the inlaws direct tv info so we can use the watch espn app. without that we'd have to have the $40 package. HBO adds $15/mo. If you want dvr that is an additional $5 but virtually everything these days is also available on demand so we didn't add dvr. If you pay 2 months in advance you get a free Roku streaming stick. I am still getting used to it but so far so good.

Never had directTV, but dropped cable about 18 months ago. Were paying somewhere north of $150 per month (for cable, internet, and land-line).

I got Netflix for $10 per month, and thought "well, when I'm sick of everything on Netflix, I'll get sling or hulu or something else". I will not live long enough to watch everything I want to, on Netflix. I guess maybe I'm easy to please (and I don't watch sports), but I feel stupid for having 200 channels all this time, and watching almost none of it.

My kids are 8 and 10, and are more than fine with what's on Netflix too.

I on occasion watch "regular - over the air tv" and I can't stomach all the commercials. They just tear me up. I'm programmed now, to never see a commercial.

yep - once you get used to not watching TV, commercials will keep you away when you try to return

same with XM Radio - try to listen to Fox Business News or whatever now and then and the ZEPA ###hole comes on and BOOM - I switch back to music before two words make it out of his irritating lips

My wife is a football addict and insists on NFL Sunday ticket. If not for that, direct tv is pretty much useless.

I never even used to notice commercials. Now, it seems like they string 22 of them, back to back. I'll get old and die, before I can watch a single show.

ON the plus side, a 30 minute show takes 22 minutes, when you take out the crap.

cable companies will drop the bill too - you just need to ask. Direct TV is a ripoff --- I helped my dad get rid of his -- everything was a hassle -- but just when we thought we had it figured out --- the equipment was mailed back and then they tagged him for some baseball game ordered 5 years ago. Evidently the remotes have a SD card in them that records something or another. He didnt order the baseball game i am sure he pushed the wrong button or something. 20 calls and sent to collections - not sure if the issue is resovled or not -- http://www.cleveland.com/consumeraffairs/index.ssf/2013/06/directv_bills_customer_for_old.html

I believe Sling offers the outdoor channel and the sportsman channel. I think Hulu offers the pursuit channel.

I should add that I recently called and bitched to Directv about my bill. They were able to knock my bill down to $118/month, and then I went and dropped my base package from the second highest to the lowest package and that knocked my bill down to $88/month... still not impressed, but it will do for the remainder of my contract...

Completely agree fj....for the wife (Seattle) and me (Miami) to watch our teams, only option.
