I've made a coupe AR's out of Polymer lowers from Tennessee arms. Functionally I've never had a issue. The fit never seems to be as good as other lowers. The take down pins are usually much harder to get out and the upper fits tight initially. If your aiming for something light and cheap I wouldn't shy away but if your looking for a nicer finish they wouldn't be my first choice. Mine are both trunk monkeys that I don't have to worry about getting a little dirty.

I appreciate the idea behind polymer lowers, but quality aluminum lowers can now be had for as little as $40-50. Unless you’re completing an 80% lower, there’s no reason to not stick with aluminum. The only advantage polymer lowers had was cost and that’s now a non-issue.

Buy these things:

http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-ar15-m16-7075-t6-forged-mil-spec-charging-handle-24080.html

This has to be shipped to an FFL. Transfers are typically $20.

Now all you need is an optic of your choice.

Edit: If you want to stick with iron sights, go on ebay and search for “Matech” rear sight. This is the standard issue sight for US military and it’s awesome. They’re about $40-50 shipped and nothing else comes close in that price range.

Fish on, get the net......

I got a $400.00 one you call a cheapie, but would you call A Colt SP1 that cost $250.00 new in the box in the early 70's a cheapie? And how many AR's are to many to own?

I'm loving the one I built in 25/45 Sharps. I just chronograph 70 grain Blitzkings a little over 3,000 fps.

I work with a guy that bought one of the garbage throw away guns. And it shot under a inch with the cheap 223 ammo Runnings had for sale. For a cheap gun it shot pretty good with no failures.

Be sure to tell your friend that a guy in the internet said it’s a garbage throw away gun. I’m sure he’ll do th right thing and throw it in the garbage.

24-hour sale, Anderson lowers $29.99: http://www.primaryarms.com/anderson-manufacturing-ar-15-stripped-lower-receiver-ar-15-a3

I’ve used them and had zero problems. They look/function as well as any other lower I’ve used and are made of the same forged aluminum. I would NOT use some of the other parts that Anderson makes but their lowers are good to go.
