I just wanted to thank you all one more time for the outpouring of support and information that's been shared with my family about Metigoshe. It is VERY much appreciated and again why I love this site!

Just disappointed I didn't get GPS coordinates and a guarantee on a spot for 12" bluegill ;:;rofl :::

There's a trade off. You have helped me and others on here before. I have 8 and a half grand kids in your neck of the woods and the older ones all love to go fishing with Papa . Not looking for honey holes just like to try to get them catch edible fish so I can teach cleaning and eating too. We can catch little bullheads right in the backyard but I wanna show them cleaning and cooking fishing. I've eaten bullheads and they are ok if you catch big ones, All we catch is dinks but they still have a blast as long as Papa takes them off the hook.

I'll be out on Metigoshe before you and I'll PM you some waypoints to structure and some where we caught fish. For some reason the good structure like you see in other lakes that produces Walleye only seems to yield Northerns for me most of the time. Walleyes are scattered but concentrate in weird areas . Be prepared to catch a lot of small northerns with a mixed bonus keeper. It's all fun.

Davey - PM me for opportunities around the FM/Casselton area. I was out tonight with bobbers and minnows and found myself a 13 inch crappie and a fish that peeled a ton of drag before it unhooked itself....not a lake that has northerns either so it was either a big bass or big walleye.

Thanks for the info in advance!

Well, Wednesday we're off! Weather looks to be cold AF Wed, Thurs, Fri (high 66, low 35 one night). Saturday high temp stated at 71 but wind gusts to 47 mph! I sure hope they are wrong. I'm guessing fishing is f'd but we'll try anyway. My wife went back through all the suggestions you guys gave of things to do and has a good list.

We'll make the best of whatever Mother Nature throws at us. Just hoping we catch a break and meteorologists are flat wrong on this one!

We are bringing croquet, bocci ball, and yard dice to fill the time if we can't get out to do much else! I told the wife we're bringing extra booze but didn't think it was the best idea....:)

Didn't ask on the earlier rounds but are you bringing/have access to a boat?

Assume you have a depth finder. There are 3 areas that you can get in trouble in and they are shown on the attached map. The first 2 are after you go under the bridge to go to the "South" Lake. If you are going to go south after going under the bridge you need to take a very wide turn around the point before you go south. If you are going back to the "North" lake and are approaching the bridge along the north shore you need to give the point before the bridge good clearance. The 3rd place is if you go into the south west bay "Hahn's Bay and you approach from the east there is 1 big rock that can come up unexpedly. Give that point a wide berth too. Just don't go pedal to the medal before you check points out. Metigoshe is mostly 10 to maximum of 22 feet deep.

Thanks so much for the info. I'll be sure to watch for those spots....I don't need the expense of a lower unit or even worse injury to my family!!!! And now that I know where your cabin is I'll expect a 6 pack sitting on the dock waiting for me lol.....

And yes, Lowrance HDS side imaging but the local intel is much more important than what I'm seeing on on the graph

I haven't been on the water yet this year but the worst I think is on the west side of the bridge , Make a big swing to the northwest of the point before heading south. We have a couple of our grandkids up this week and they love fishing so will be out on the weekdays. if you see a big ol gray /blue lund Baron inboard trolling around stop by and say Hi.

The good thing about Metigoshe is there is always a to get out of the wind.

Well, the trip was a success! Thanks to everyone who gave advice on area attractions, fishing, and all the local knowledge. We honestly took notes and made a point to hit up most of what was suggested. We got Pride icecream, fished Strawberry lake, got out on Metigoshe for some walleye and pike one day, and even stumbled on some geocaching which we've never done before.

The turtles were in full egg-laying mode so we saw a ton of them and even one laying eggs in the empty camp pad next to us. With the wind all week there was also some bocce ball, croquet, and yard dice that took place! We did not get to experience Mystical Horizons or do as much fishing as I'd like, but the family already informed me we're headed back in late August (roughly 72 days from now) to witness the hatchlings emerge. Wife wants to rent the Yurt in the park this time though, which would save us a vehicle towing a camper - probably a wash when you factor gas and risk of breakdown, not to mention setup time.

Overall a great trip and a HUGE thank you for the suggestions! You all had a hand in making the trip a success - my family thanks you!

Are there any fish in School Section Lake that the Yurt is on? I don't see any Game and Fish data on it....

Well our second trip to Metigoshe is tomorrow - finally headed to the yurt! We are excited and ready for some baby turtles as well as more fishing than we got to do last time....doesn't look like the wind will be blowing 40 mph everyday unlike our previous trip. We are going to hit up some of the spots we didn't get to on our last adventure (Mystical Horizons etc), geocache, bike, hike, and fish! Of course some bocci ball and croquet are also in our future....

NW ND somewhere
All cool info. I have been thinking of going back to Metigoshe someday. I've been there once when we lived in Lakota ND back in the late 70's and I was in about the junior high age. We knew a family that their Grandma had a cabin on Mackay island. Seen the big rock just north of there, caught northerns off the dock, small perch under the dock. True story, we were fishing, then decided to head to the bait shop, reeled in the line, didn't bring it all the way out of the water, bait and all still on the line....come back, grab the rod...and holy shit, there was northern on, but fell of the hook, talk about surprise...could have lost that rod..... Dad caught a perch over 1 lb took in to bait and it was shy of the lake record at that time..lol Good ole memories.

When will you have time to fish? LOL
