Who else got caught off guard by it being done? I got busy with kids stuff this past 3 weeks and suddenly realized my ice time is over when I went to the landing on Saturday! Time to get the boat ready I guess!

Got hunter's safety under our belt this weekend so that's a plus....I sat through the classes to make sure I knew what they were learning - killed me to know it was 60 degrees and I wasn't out Saturday!

I was holdin' on to hope......should've known global warming would take over.

Then again, should I complain about open water?

the ice on dvl this weekend is just not good, pretty much like drilling frozen slush and making all kinds of odd noises.

I gave up a week ago. I didn't like watching the melt water run down through the cracks and seeing how the small sloughs are opening up made me nervous as to how long the lakes would be good. Fishing was also terrible in my area so that might have played into it as well.

In my younger days I fished as late as I could and as early in the year as I could. Probably took more chances then, now I wait for it to get thick and I'm usually one of the first to quit going in the spring.

I remember ice fishing buffalo lodge a long time ago walking out on what my buddies said was 4 inches, it was more like two. Chopping holes with an ax. I remember a group of us standing together drinking beer and the ice started cracking and we all ran like hell but we kept fishing. Man that was stupid but sure seemed like fun back then.

We were at Rivers Bend LOTW about a week ago. Ice was fine then but fishing for use (and everyone around us) was slow. Fished in 30 FOW and most of the eyes were on the small side.

I was out on Saturday with the Wilcraft. Ice was better than I thought it would be in the Jamestown/VC area. Shorelines weren't even that bad, but ice was honeycombed a bit.
