For town driving I really hate it. Does it really save gas? Or is it like peeing in the Ocean? Government regulation?
What does everyone else do?

It’s a drop in the ocean type situation. What I remember hearing is it’s not so much about saving YOU gas. You could do much more by adjusting your acceleration habits if that was a real concern. It’s more that collectively, every F150 out there shutting down at a stop allows Ford to claim a higher MPG average. I shared on this site a while back that I used the Forscan computer program to disable the auto stop. I recommend it.

Wish you could just reverse the wires on the switch and it would work vice versa. Save gas was just an excuse for them. I had to replace starter at only about 19k miles, $630 some for the heavy duty starter.

My least favorite thing ever added to a vehicle. There should be a monster class action lawsuit against anyone involved in adding this gigantic joke to all vehicles.

Read something recently that said they predicted a 5% savings in gas, but in reality it was few tenth of a percent at best.

As a GM guy b4 Gm phased out this stupid auto stop they added "auto stop" switch in newer trucks too allow drivers to disengage for heavy payload or trailering in trucks b4 phasing this auto stop out completely not sure about Ford maybe your dealer can program out via "tech two" worth a phone call.

I install an autostop eliminator in our vehicles as soon as I buy them. With my F150, I literally drove home from the dealership and installed one so I wouldn't have to deal with that stupidness every time I came to a stop or having to hit the button every time i started the vehicle.

I’m unaware that they phased it out. Is that brand new? My ‘19 Terrain has that piece of crap with no button to shut it off. My ‘21 sierra didn’t have it because they thankfully couldn’t get the chip that should be blown to smithereens during covid, THANK GOD. My dad’s pickup has it but he has to remember to hit a button to disable it every time he starts the vehicle. I think his is a ‘24. So to my knowledge they haven’t discontinued the worst thing to ever come along in vehicles.

Actually I suspect you purchased in stock vehicles as of 2020 dealers could opt out of "auto stop" as they ordered inventory as auto stop became an option b4 being completely phased out in 2022 when I retired from GM
(Chevrolet division).

Weird either gmc is different or….every buick or gmc I’ve looked at has it in it so I just have kept my 2019 waiting for someone to get smart enough to stick those things where the sun shines. I know people with buicks and gmc that are 2024 that have the auto shut offs. They at least have buttons where you can turn the feature off when you start the car though

So the deal with the auto start stop being optional was back when chips were in tight demand and vehicles were being shipped without certain options and other things that were standard were made optional. For GM, the start stop turned into an option because of the micro chip shortage. They prioritized there chips for other things. They didn't cut the options as much in the more premium vehicles like GMC, Cadillac and Buick.

On my 2021 F150, it didn't come with a wireless phone charger. I was fine with that because the put them in a stupid spot to start with. on the Lincoln aviators, they didn't come with the massaging seats. Pretty much all of the companies were doing this in order to have enough chips to get vehicles completed and into inventory. That was then, now-days I couldn't tell you other than all of my vehicles have an AutoStop Eliminator installed. Hell, I forgot our vehicles used to do that, lol.

In my best Walter Matthau Grumpy old men voice….pisses me off schmucks that they are that you have to buy extra parts for a $50-$80k vehicle to shut off a part that no one was clamoring for except for some dumb hippie that thinks that shutting off and starting an engine 100 times a damn day is going to save the earth.

When I get in my pickup I start it. Plug my phone in and push the button. It's that simple. And I don't stress over it.
