I answer a lot of them, waste a lot of their time for my own personal enjoyment. Usually ask them about the weather, if aliens are real, size shoe they wear, what I've named my hemorroids, if they think the government is listening to us, how they got my number even though I'm wearing an aluminum hat. You know, all the simple things.

I got a good one a couple weeks ago someone claiming to be the Cass County Sheriffs office stating there is a warrant out for me because I missed a court date. I messed with him for a bit and hung up then called him back (hillsboro number) and asked him his location so the sheriff and I could come talk with him to get this all sorted out, then he hung up on me.....rude.....

One step closer to the end.
never answer an unrecognized number

if it’s important they will leave voicemail

you can include a short explanation in your VM

I block all calls that dont leave a VM.
My number of spam calls has gone dramatically. Maybe one a day or less.
If they leave a VM and it is spam, I block the number.

Yep I may miss the $1,000,000 call from Publishers Clearinghouse but so be it.

Somewhat related, for all "junk" mail I now call the number on the mail piece and ask to get removed from their mailing list. 99% of the time it works. I was getting my Mom's mail delivered here. She was getting on average 21 pieces of junk mail a day. We are now done to less than one a month for her. I get about the same for us. Virtually no junk mail. LOL Winning .... For now.

Not to worry, Publishers Clearinghouse went broke. There were people that were supposed to be paid lotto winnings from them for years, well when they went broke they didn't have to pay those winners. Imagine how bad that would suck if you'd won some money.

I love scam calls! My favorite is when the “fraud department” calls from my bank (pretty sure I have never banked in India before) and start asking questions. I talk low, soft and weak (listen closely my pigeon) then I have my old whistle on my keychain from my cop days that I blow with everything I got into the phone before some maniacal laughter and hanging up. Enjoy the gift of tinnitus! 😈

I have been hammered with spam calls, lately, too. I just sit and yell “take me off of your calling list” over and over, until they hang up.

Then I’ll get a call from the same entity a day or two later.

Wasn’t it supposed to be law that they must remove you from their directory if you stated so??
I signed up for a service that goes to these data brokers and actually gets your info removed.

Delete me is the name of the place and in my opinion it's worth the price

Only for domestic telemarketers. Overseas phone scammers are not bound by our laws, and saying "remove me from your list" does nothing.

The best thing you can do is not answer. Ever. Not even to tell them to f*ck off. Once you answer, they know it's a legit number and the volume of calls will increase exponentially.
That does NOTHING TO STOP the gd ringing all day.

On cell phone, I block every stray number that I get a call from and haven't had any since last year,
we still get a few on the landline.
