Hang on ,the Legislative session next year is going to be a complete shit show. they will maintain they are spending too much on the property tax relief . couple that with how the cities and counties have increased the property values and you have the perfect storm.

The cost to the state of ND for property tax relief is $ 0.00 With the amount of building going on just at the capital ground shows the state certainly is not hurting for money.

They need to get a handle on assessors and assessments. There is absolutely no reason beyond inflation why my place would have increased in value over the last 3 years. They need to freeze your property value at what you paid for the place and then increase it once the property is sold again. This constant increasing of your property value is a tax on unrealized gains which should be completely against the law!

Remember when the boogie man was going to kidnap the kids if we eliminated property taxes?

One step closer to the end.

It is their attempt to level the playing field. uh hem

Your thoughts hold for a long time owner.

Put the shoe on the foot of a new owner. Paying "x" times the amount in taxes that of his neighbor who has owned for eternity. For the same "services".

Not saying I agree with the rules.

Hasn't real estate values (as evidenced by actual sales dollars of properties) in general increased beyond inflation? Just poking holes.

Theoretically if there is an increase in total assessment there is supposed to be a corresponding decrease in the mill rate. The overall taxation to be the same.
Yeah right.

Carry on.

or is it?

Fish on!

Yep, the 3% raise limit doesn't mean shit when they raise the value of your property to get the extra tax dollars that think they need.

They will just keep raising the value of our property every year.

$9000 this year and $11,000 last year for me.

:unsure:Maybe I should ask the city if they want to buy my house for what they have it valued at.

Yep, give the tax credit (and why the f*ck do you have to apply if it is so fair) but assess everyone for 3x that amount. Thanks a lot legislators, your really shining in your positions. If any of us perform in our jobs as they do, we'd have been shit canned yrs ago.
The only good the higher assessment does is when time to sell, and there has not been a single assessor that have stepped foot on my property to assess.
Legislature = Crooks

It should be illegal to raise taxes on unrealized gain before it is even sold. In the lean years the 70s and 80s when so many farmers went under did anyone ever have their tax assessment go down when farmland prices went down?

We received our statement today from the county auditor. Our True & Full Value went up $15,500 but there is no way on God's green earth that I would sell our property for that amount. Maybe I am not looking at the statement correctly?
