I understand your confusion, and it’s my fault. The tax dollars will stay here in ND feeding kids breakfast and lunch. It’s the out of state progressive groups that are pushing and funding the no vote on measure 2. Why do you suppose they are doing that?
So does this 167 million or whatever it is above and beyond the fed money? Or is this figure without the fed money

This was not put initiated by " we the people " it was put forward by the government. The government wants " we the people" to have less control. now if this was an initiated measure by " we the people" I would be more likely to vote for it.

Are you " government" or and average " we the people"
I am for less government just like you. With a 60% threshold we could have less government, not more. At least that's how I see it, you probably wont and that's ok, we can disagree on it then.

Measure 1 was initiated by legislature, that's the only path they have to make a constitutional change. I believe it to be a good change and will protect we the people voters from out of state progressive outfits that have a keen interest in changing our constitution and mandating their agenda.

Then I assume you are voting for measure 2, which is more government. But that measure was initiated by "we the people", namely Amy Jacobson and the Together for School Meals committee. Jacobson is executive director of Prairie Action ND, a progressive policy group. Here are her own words from her Linkedin page, they are right at the top, maybe you agree with her political beliefs, I have no idea:

I am a North Dakota-based political strategist, communications leader, and advocate working to build power, advance progressive change, and lift up diverse voices.

Through 701 Strategy Group, which I co-found in 2023, I support candidates, advocacy organizations, and issue campaigns with political consulting, communications strategy, messaging development, digital advocacy, and media amplification. I also founded Elevate Academy, a leadership development program that helps emerging leaders prepare to run for office, advocate effectively, and build lasting power in their communities.

My career has centered on advocacy for women, families, reproductive freedom, human rights, and democracy in North Dakota. I previously served for 15 years as the first staff person and North Dakota State Director for Planned Parenthood in North Dakota, and spent 13 years on the board of the North Dakota Women’s Network, where I chaired the State Legislative Committee and co-created WE Rise: Women Empowered, the state’s first women’s lobby day at the Capitol.

I have led and supported successful statewide ballot measure campaigns protecting reproductive freedom, human rights, and direct democracy in North Dakota.

I am a proud North Dakota native, NDSU graduate, Distinguished Alumni honoree, and YWCA Cass Clay Woman of the Year.

Not all constitutional changes are bad, some are a legit change that needs to be made, like measure 1, but I believe constitutional measures have to have more that a simple 50% plus one vote to pass as I explained earlier.
In the case of measure one, the legislature put it forth because they are trying to protect not only our state constitution from ridiculous measures but also on behalf of us. I don't believe the legislature wants us to have less control, I believe that they want to protect what we have and make it more difficult for the progressives to change our constitution and fundamentally change our state.

I suspect you wont agree and that's just fine, its ok to have a different opinion and I appreciate the debate.

And again, please everyone get out and exercise your right to vote!

That is an estimate of what it will cost the taxpayers of ND, to be taken out of the Legacy fund. Your number is a little high but probably more correct than the official estimate of $124.3 million to $134.3 million per biennium starting in 2027–2029. I think that estimate will prove to be low.
As far as federal funding, not really sure about that, why would we need a federal handout if we the people are going to fund it?

Democracy 50% plus one. Mob rule. We don't live in a democracy. We live in a Republic.

That teacher sure turned quickly, must not like having to pay $4.50 for his lunch daily?
Seems an odd argument that the kids that are currently getting free food is not enough?

Exactly. So if we don’t take the federal money then the amount needed from legacy fund will be 124.3-134.3 plus whatever federal money we quit taking. The unintended consequences of this will insane

I couldn't agree more. A yes vote on measure 1 will counter insane constitutional measures like measure 2 in the future.

I'm 6 credits away from a Masters in teaching. There's 100% chance if I decide to move into a classroom and I'll be using and teaching AI.

That little cry baby teacher jumped out quickly. pussy!! Empathy is for pregnant women and small children. There is no room room for empathy in my pay check.

Nah didn't run away. I just don't look at a computer screen at home or in the evenings. Got better things to do.

So I will conclude my comments on this thread with: Get out and vote! I will be doing that after the workday ends, then off to do yard work. Been on the road the last 4 weekends chasing Aves.

My official workday starts at 7:55 so off I go to grade, lecture, quiz, assess, clean litter boxes, recommend deodorant, listen to people tell me about cartoons or their shoes for 15 minutes, count up Student of the Quarter ballots, recommend gender reassignments, and all those things we "do" as teachers. And at the top of my list: pin and dry duck wings for my waterfowl unit in my field science class. Picked up some wigeon and pintail specimens that I need to replace others. Kids are hard on wings! They like to tease, pry, prod, and pester each other not unlike the people here like to do. "And the streets don't change but maybe the names".

No reading of any fishing or hunting websites will occur while you are paying me. What if I need to use the staff restroom during the day? Should I document those minutes?

Happy Election Day and may the results be ever in your favor.

You get what I’m saying right? So the 160 million will be 350 million in just a few short years. Bet people don’t realize what they’re signing up for. Then how does the legislature deal with something like on the constitution. To change it wouldn’t be easy. When was the last time you saw a government handout get reduced?
This right here, has been my hang up the entire time. While not as well versed as many on here, you can bet that after this measure passes, if it does, my fear is that without the federal oversight that the price per meal with rapidly inflate, what their projected costs are will be a drop in the bucket compared to a few years from now. There is no end to this, and it does not belong in our constitution.

Thanks for being an educator. Even though I'm retired my wife is still teaching, shes a little younger than me. The stories I hear, mostly about entitled parents who think they know it all.

I voted by mail a few weeks ago. My civic duty. I voted the way donald asked us to vote, pretend he's on the ballot.
