Fargo Diversion and the ND Game and Fish

The diversion plan includes a dam. Al Carlson and the other developers want the dam far enough south it will protect homes they want to build in southern Fargo. That means flooding as far south as Kindred. But Fargo has more votes in the ND House than Kindred. The real problem is Fargo...

    Rolling Plains Sportsmans Club

The best of luck to your club if it ends up in a courtroom. Plan now for a possible relocation. Maybe an invitation to those homowners to join your club first year free would help. Push a youth and a women's program to increase membership numbers.

    Warning for handloaders

Okay, the powder can start to burn before it's handled. Yes even in the original bottle. Go to the IMR website.

    TIRE Thread 2000 Super Duty

If your spare is 15 years old, replace it too. Back when I owned a Suburban, I didn't use or replace the spare when I bought tires. When it was about 10 years old, it didn't hold air any more. There is nothing as useless as a spare with the little nubs still on it that won't hold air. Lesson...

    Equality

When I read the newspaper article I thought the bloggers would have a field day with candidate "Wiggly." Not as good as NY's Weiner, but good enough for a blogger.

    TIRE Thread 2000 Super Duty

My Chevy '09 dually came with General tires and they have been excellent. But I don't think General makes that size any more. I've had good service from Toyo tires in the past, and the Coopers I've owned seemed to last a long time, but with limited traction on wet or icy roads. So I'll be...

    Warning for handloaders

Visit the www.imrpowder.com website and look for the notice of the recall of a half dozen lots of IMR4007SSC. The bottles can explode? That's a recall!

    Advice on Brittany Pups

30 years ago I had a purebred American Brittany. If you get one of them, you'll fall in love with its disposition. However, if ours wasn't walked three times/day to an open field where he could run loose, he'd become so restless he was a pain. The field trial breeding made him hyperactive...

    Used car extended warranty

A car dealer (the dealership owner) told me years ago not to buy an extended warranty until the factory warranty was about done (don't pay for double coverage), and then only if the vehicle had been troublesome. As was said earlier, they make money. This dealer admitted he got 50% as a commission.

    Breaking in a shot gun

Getting the corrosion-protecting grease out of the gun is very important if you buy an imported rifle or handgun. Cosmoline in the barrel is an obstruction! Grease in the bolt 9or whatever feeds the cartridge) will attract dirt and the bolt/firing pin won't work when it's cold.

    Scope on Air Rifle

Another vibration caused problem is the scope mount. If you have one of those 1000fps air guns, that dovetail mount may not be adequate. Air gun stores also sell a dovetail clamp block that is put behind the clamp-type mount most air gun scopes use. They are cheap, and may help.

Top 10 worst states for taxes!

Retired. My fixed income puts me in a low bracket after deducting mortgage interest. My variable income is from 401K/IRA which is taxed like capital gains (15%) and tax-free municipal bond funds. The house we bought in Moorhead would have cost at least 25-40% more across the river. Houses in...

    Used car extended warranty

Read the exclusions in the contract very, very carefully. You won't get the same deal someone whose car just went out of warranty will be offered by a reputable company.

    Scope on Air Rifle

If you're shooting from a rest, the vibrations from a springer rifle can throw you off a lot. Those vibrations shake scopes apart as well, but the gun should have come with a scope built for the multi-direction vibration. A final option is buying a Hawke or Leapers scope made for air rifles...

    Honker mount ideas

I had a friend that mounted the bottom half of a goose with legs extended, feet spread, to his man cave ceiling. It went well with the other mounted geese in the room.

    Used Camper Help

Leaks will destroy the wood framing in just a few weeks due to dry rot. Look for any staining in the ceiling or walls. Stains below windows can just be from interior condensation, but anywhere else is a big red flag.

    .308/7.62 NATO load recommendations

For semiautos, use data for 7.62 semiautos in reloading manuals. That's for the proper pressure at the gas port. A too slow powder will stress the semiauto mechanism. Handloaders after WWII learned this by beating M1 Garands apart and what they learned is still true.

looking into a AR platform rifle

If you're a tinkerer, buy an inexpensive AR and start swapping out parts for better stuff like free floating hand guards, barrels, etc. If you want a rifle that will work and provide excellent accuracy out of the box, shop Les Baer. It's not uncommon to spend a couple thousand dollars...

    Scope rings and bases

No one likes them, but for durability the steel Weavers can't be beaten. They are unpopular because they tend to turn the scope when the rings are tightened. Steel Millets are also good and cost less than the heavily advertised brands.
