    Best underwear for the boat

Duluth Trading Co. Armachillo's and Keen sandals--that's all you need to wear in the boat. Oh, and a pair of Costa sunglasses. That would be quite the look for you, John.

    Best boat shoes

Big fan of Keen sandals as well. I do find I have to replace every year as they start to stink, but they get worn every day, all summer long, in and out of the water.

    Bacon

Yes, you want to use curing salt #1 for bacon. It is what gives bacon the pink color and the "cured" flavor, much like ham. You need to use specific amounts for bacon since you are putting it directly on the belly and not in a solution. You use less than you would think. To much nitrates may...

    lamprey on a pike ??

Freshwater eel.....yummy! This is one of the few types of sushi I can get my wife to eat, because it's cooked and slightly warmed up when they serve it. It's called Unagi, and it's awesome.

Tiger muskie out of Devils Lake?

I don't know, that picture on the cleaning table looks like a pretty big fish. The tail angle on the standing picture can make it look a lot different. Here's a picture of a 49.5 with the tail angled back, and it makes it look a lot shorter. And here's a pic of a 40 inch...

Tiger muskie out of Devils Lake?

Pictures can be quite deceiving. The picture of him holding it by the door makes it look in the low 40's, but the tail is facing away from the camera which makes a big difference. The picture of it on the table makes it look a lot bigger. A 48 inch tiger is very rare, however, they just don't...

    Lake Winnipeg Update 2017

Just from other people's reports since we've returned. Any quality fish we saw from other groups were no shallower than 22. We were just a few miles from even deeper water but never checked it out....now I wish we would have.

    Lake Winnipeg Update 2017

I have never fished in such brutal conditions as I did last Friday there. Tons of water on the ice with dropping temps and 50MPH winds. The freezing spray from the quads was miserable, coating you and everything else. I thought the Clams were going to rip apart. Friday night the temp dropped and...

    DNA Heritage Testing

Yeah, what stupid commercials as well. "Gee, I thought I was from Eastern Europe, but it turns out I am 50% eskimo, so now I'm going to decorate my house with seal skins and eat whale blubber." Gay.

    Lake Winnipeg Update 2017

Getting ready to head up Thursday after work. Bought a backup favorite lure, but will still be using the original to start with as it just sounds a little different from the others. That, and the scratches on it actually give it a little more flash. Can't wait to get up there and put these small...

    boat battery questions

Any number of deep cycle batteries would work best for the trolling motor. For a starting battery I really do like the Interstate XHD (extra heavy duty) series.

    Fluorocarbon Leaders

Uni to uni knot is nice for tying superline to fluoro direct, but I like using a swivel, particularly for ice fishing when a spinning bait while vertically jigging can be detrimental to getting a bite. Another reason for using the stuff just for the leader is getting snagged. This is more of a...
