I caught you a delicious bass

I do a lot of bass fishing. Usually I don't keep any. A couple times this year there were a few that inhaled the bait and were bleeding from the gills, so I kept them. I've eaten bass in the past and have never been impressed. It seemed mushy and gamey. At one point I swore I'd never keep...

    How to find boat leak

I believe I've used the 3M stuff. It's a green stick that you heat with a torch and smear it on as it melts. It works pretty well, but won't do you a bit of good unless you find the actual leak. It's not practical to do all the seams and every rivet -- could just be leaking around a loose...

    Crestliner Transom Woes

Call me ignorant, but in this day and age, why use wood in a transom at all? Seems like there are plenty of other materials out there that would never rot. Also, are all boats still made this way? How about glass boats?

    Deck Footings.

You definitely want the footings below the frost line. Over here in the east, that's 54 inches. You don't want that thing to move. Other stuff... don't know.

    Tracker Boats

I have an 06 Tracker Targa 17ft. It's been a great boat. Other than some design short-sightedness on the center rod locker (can't even get a 6ft rod in there -- I mean seriously, what's supposed to go in there, ice fishing rods?) I'm really pleased with it. Yes, there are other brands that...

    Pics of Your Fishing Chariot

Old Boat: New Boat: A slight upgrade... I have a lot of good memories in the old "banana boat", but I did want to punch that motor in the face a number of times.

    Mosquito control

Dude... I do spray down with OFF and other kinds of bug spray. Problem is it only works so long before you need to spray down again, and those sonsabitches will find the one square inch you didn't have hosed down to a greasy-shine.

    Zero Turn Mowers

I would love to upgrade to a zero turn as I have a few hundred trees to mow around on my nearly-flat two acres. However, I currently have a John Deere tractor with a 42" snow blower attachment. I really like the blower for my big driveway. I've looked a bit, and it doesn't seem like you can...

    Mosquito control

As predicted, all the rain a few weeks ago created a butt-load of mosquitos in the Fargo area. I'm getting killed out there, even in the middle of the day. It doesn't help that I have standing water in the ditches on 3 sides of my place. I have a Skeeter Defeater...

    Midco Internet

Not sure about Minot area, but Midco is the cats-ass in the Fargo area. In like 5 years i think I recall one brief outage.

Calling All Boat Mechanic/ Armchair Mechanics Motor Problems

I had an '83 50 horse Merc. I had so much carb trouble that I now run an EFI and will never buy another carbureted motor. I had those two carbs off so many times that I could do it blindfolded. Anyway... like others said, if it runs fine at home, I doubt the carbs are "bad". They may be a...

    No love for goats??

They used to give out triple tags in Harding county SD. Them were the days... Never shot anything huge, but boy did we have fun. Love chasing those speed goats...

    60 trees and bushes later................................

The whole "acid" thing only applies if your soil PH is too high. It's true that evergreens (and a lot of other plants) prefer a soil ph on the acidic side (lower than 7.0). However, you should probably have your soil tested before you do anything. Here in the RRV, the clay is generally 7.0 to...

    Top 3 Rock Bands

Metallica and ACDC seem to be quite popular here. No disputing their greatness, but to be fair, they don't have much 'range', especially ACDC. Pearl Jam Led Zeppelin The Who

    Trailer bunk board options.

4 out of 6 lag bolts fell out of my bunks recently. The wood rotted out around the bolts. Since the boards were still mostly ok, and the carpet is still in really good shape, I fixed it by drilling a hole through the board and putting a carriage bolt through from the top (making sure to sink...

    Your "Fish On" Expressions

When I'm bassin' with my buddies and we got the lake to ourselves -- which we usually do, we usually go with a nice loud "awe, son". -- I think it started out as making fun of some redneck tv fishing guy we saw once, but then kinda stuck. But when we're fishing walleyes with other boats...

    Got Goose? What to do...

That does look good. For those that may not have the equipment that you do, I've always used the High Mountain jerky cure and seasoning packs and a plain old round - 5 tray dehydrator. The best ones are Cracked Pepper and Garlic, Hickory, and Mesquite. That's the only way I eat goose and...

    Why Do You Hunt?

Never really thought about it that much. Mostly because I love everything about it. But why do I love it? There are many facets of hunting that appeal to my higher levels of cognition. A lot of those GST touched on. But at the core, I think as we are animals ourselves, it has been engrained...

Places to fish around fargo ?

I typically head east. There are plenty of small MN lakes within 45-60 min of Fargo. The Cormorant lakes, Lizzie and Lida all hold walleyes, northerns and bass. If you don't want to spring for MN licenses, I would try out Ashtabula. I haven't fished it myself, but I know fish can be had there.
