Looking at getting one of these but can't make up my mind on which brand. Don't like savage so that's out. Don't wanna break the bank either. Have looked at cz, browning, marlin and ruger. Any others out there? Anyone have any experience with any?

I have two, Henry Golden boy and a Savage A17 that I have not shot yet. Golden Boy is a fun little rifle to shoot if you like open sights. I would have to have a gunsmith put a scope mount on it to mount scope and I really don't want to do that.

Also have a golden boy and a a17 but have yet to shoot either. Golden boy is nice real nice. A17 seems like it will be a fun rifle to carry in the pickup. You also can put a acope on the golden boy without taking it to the gun smith. Can on mine anyway. Open sites come off, screw on the rail and add the scope.

I have a Henry in 17HMR. Really a nice shooting gun. I did put a 4-12 x 33 scope on it. It's an accurate shooter.

Mine is about 15 years old and has the dovetail mounts for the front and rear sights, no screws in barrel

I have a savage and the thing will drive tacks which is a feat in itself with me behind it. I do have an issue with the clip jamming up, have replaced the clip and still have the problem from time to time.

I have a CZ bolt, clip and a short heavy barrel. Has a 2.5 X 8 power scope. Have had it for quite a while. Really a quality gun.
It is up at the Angle I would like to bring it back and have a suppressor installed (if possible). Anyone have one on a 17 HMR???

Before you buy a .17 HMR take a look at a .17 WSM. You can pick up a Savage stainless steel heavy barrel model for about $350 or less and it's twice the gun that the HMR is. I have one and love it for pdog shooting. It will easily reach out 50 to 100 yards further than the HMR and has much greater knock down power which will make a big difference if you want to use it on coyotes. I dolled mine up with a nice 4x16x50 scope and a Boyd's thumbhole stock and it sure looks pretty. Ammo is easy to find and costs about the same as for the HMR. Watch the you tube video at my link to see the difference between the WSM, HMR and WRM. I sold my WRM after using the WSM a couple of times because it couldn't compare and I couldn't find ammo for a reasonable price and have not regretted it. I strongly recommend the heavy barreled model if you're going pdog hunting because it will hold it's accuracy better than the pencil barreled version when things get crazy. I've had my barrel so hot a few times that I couldn't touch it.

I have a Savage with a bull barrel. I love the round! Its like a .22 but with a little more pop. At the end of a day shooting we almost always endup shooting rimfire. .17 at 200yrds is fun for the whole family. My 9yr old and 11yr old can shot the gun just as well as me.

I have a savage bolt action heavy barrel. Man is that baby accurate up to 200 yards, I've also gone beyond that. Super fun and highly recommend.

I have two. The first one is Marlin bolt action with a bull barrel. The second one is by far my favorite. That one is Thompson Contender G2 pistol in a stainless barrel with a Leopold 4x scope and Pachmayr grips. It is every bit as accurate as my rifle if not more. I also have .223 barrel that I can swap out that is a hoot to shoot also.

I thought the same thing about Savage but after listening to several others and then the seller we went with Savage 93 R 17.
What a blooming tack driver. We have the SS bull barrel, thumb hole stock and Nikon Buck Master 4.5 x 14 scope. 200 yards is nothing. Nothing wrong with Savage compared to when i grew up!

We shoot Hornady 17 Grain V-Max in it. Haven't tried any others as these are so darn accurate.

Spot on Report - I had the forearm of my original factory stock warp right to the barrel. Sent it back to Savage, they replaced the stock and sent it back in about 2 month, all on their dime. Great customer service and they 100% back their products.

I have but then you're getting right up there in ammo price. I already have a 223.

If you reload I would consider the 17 hornet.

I have a savage and a Mossberg with bull barrels and I'll brag up either one to anybody who wants to listen, I can continuously nail pop bottle caps at 100 yards with both.

It is a nice little caliber, but ammo is to expensive a guy can shoot 55 grain bullets out of a 223 for close to the same. My experience with the 17 hmr is that little bullet doesn't do well in wind. Not saying a 223 is a missle in the wind but fairs a lot better. The 223 is my choice for a cheap plinking gun and can get in an AR platform to make it real fun
