5 guys, 5 MN pickups, all hunting together with zero dog kennels……….at Audubon today. Like WTF, ya all couldn’t just come in 1 or 2 pickups 🤷‍♂️. With all the private land getting tougher to access, the stuff that is open or public is getting pummeled. Hardly any traffic at Audubon or garrison last weekend, had zero issue running into other hunters. Today, it was jam packed, mostly blue platers………..
Maybe the dogs ride in the pickups.

Apparently this is Minnesota Angler nowadays, not Nodak Angler. North Audabon was 80% out of starters yesterday, couldn’t do shit out there without running into them. I guess if that’s the way you guys like to hunt, by all means. I prefer to put mile behind my dog and my boots, and yes, I hate big group hunting if that’s what you want to use the word hunting in it, nothing like spending more time standing around chew the fat than actually hunting.

If you all don’t think the out of state hunting situation is getting to be a problem in this state, I don’t what to tell you but there’s less land and habitat everywhere, more out of staters and it’s forcing higher pressure onto the remaining open properties…….which just leads to more posting. It’s a problem

This is America. Last time I checked.

We’re not confined to state borders.

Remember that.
North Dakota does not have a corner on the market when it comes to non-residents.

About a month ago, there was a lot of complaining on this site about non-residents. I called the Mn DNR and asked how many non-resident fishing licenses were bought in 2024.

I was astonished at the reply......I may have misunderstood, but this is what I was told...."There were 341,000 non-resident fishing licenses sold in Minnesota in 2024:!!!!!" I asked him to repeat it and he said the same number.

The highways east of Fargo and Grand Forks is a parade of ND license plates EVERY Friday night going east and Sunday night coming home.....that is year round!!

I do understand that there are outdoor activities in both states that many people enjoy....it's just how it is.

I agree with your last line and I'm sure all of us have gone out of state to do some hunting or fishing. The ND going to MN fishing thing is a little weak since there's little competition for access when it comes to fishing, not to mention you can fish 50 boats in a 10 acre area and still have a decent day. And the fishing season is year-round (panfish stays open), that pressure is spread out a lot. I wouldn't mind seeing more of the NR (and R) dollars going toward habitat development on plots, whether that be out of what they already pay or an excise fee. I think everyone agrees we need to do more for habitat and access, it's time to start actually doing something about it. I personally spent several days bird hunting this week and deleted at least 10 waypoints that had gotten e-posted just in the last year.

This is a pheasant hunting thread. I don't want to turn this into a non-resident thread, but I felt that I needed to respond. I'll stop after this post.

You have to be kidding about the weak comparison to MN fishing. Obviously, you have not tried fishing with 50 boats in a 10 acre spot and still had good fishing. Most of the lakes within 100 miles of ND are relatively small lakes. There is only so much structure in these lakes. It's really frustrating to want to fish a spot, only to have ND boats already there.

Mn has good fishing....ND has good hunting...I like to do both.

It's just the way it is for both states.

As far as the fishing goes, that will be a forever thing. Minnesota and Wisconsin season is closed for a month that's why we have numerous come to ND.
As far as Hunting, it will always continue, Plots, Wpa, etc will get totally hammered with "non" and local hunters, as it is harder and harder to get permission if you don't have a few greenbacks to hand out. I have knocked on numerous doors and 4 out of 5 times its the same, grandkids or nephews are going to hunt it. Could be legit or an excuse, they're choice, but sometimes the 1 will allow. It certainly can be worth stopping "IF" you can actually locate the owner.

I wonder how many nonresident hunters were in the Pembina area hunting Pheasants as people sure mention it a lot on here. My guess it was crawling with nonresident. 😅

Some aren't happy no matter what.

Is the glass half full or half empty?

Heck, I LOVE going to hunt Nd on Sundays.
Seems like the fields are empty because the locals waste thier time watching the ( cough, cough) the Mn Vikings.
...rockon...

Oh the irony.

Down by the river
If your a local resident and have to rely on hunting public ground, that's YOUR fault.
That's a bullshit comment most areas now it you don't pay to hunt you don't get access my boss leases 4000 acres down by grassy butte for 35 cents an acre which only his family and land owners can hunt it's in a contract that's what hunting has become in a life long resident and I only hunt public land so why is it my fault I can't afford to lease hunting land

Hmm? I must be awefull good looking, charismatic or something ?

Never had much trouble finding permission to hunt posted land and never shelled out a nickel for it.

Perhaps expand your area and get away from the area your Boss leases up. ?
MANY, MANY discreet spots that can be found that have great hunting with a road trip and knocking on doors.
Try it. (y)

ND has good fishing....and ND has good hunting...I like to do both and have no reason to go to MN and that includes wasting time in the shithole Twin Cities or wasting an afternoon watching the Vikings

It's just the way it is for both states.

There, I fixed it for you. Why anyone from nd would go to MN fishing when we have some of the best fisheries in the US right here in nodak is beyond me……..

btw, there’s a hell of a lot of blue plates around Sakakawea boat ramps all summer too.
