It is all.about the pressure that burns the throat out. If I remember 61000 is what the 4s is running there was a post on old snipershide that George went into detail on the how and what with all the numbers from the machines. This was 3 years ago two years ago he won the snipershide cup with a gun with 3000 rounds on it to prove his point to people who did not believe the math.

If your comparing the .308 to the 6.5 saum it does everything better with less recoil but accuracy is really dependent on shooters. I would say there might be a reason no one wins with a .308 an accuracy might be one of them. They have special sub division just for the .308 in the precision rifle series because it is at such a disadvantage. Comparing it to the weatherby I would take the .308. All in good fun I would rather debate guns than politics.

How far out are you shooting ? I don't have a BR frame of mind when I think about guns, That is a money game and I have never been there. That said, I wouldn't trade my 308 for ten of them if I had to rely on it to feed my family and keep me alive. The old 308 used to be the best of the best when I was in the game and I haven't shot anything that has built any more confidence. I'm getting old and ain't worth a crap any more but back in the day I would have said bring it on.

In the comps out to 1200 yards that is generally a prone shot but most are any where from 50 out to that point lots.Of.dynamic shooting. Like of barricades other Od positions. Some known some unknown distance, movers and all with a time limit of 2 minutes or under per stage with most stages having 5 targets or so to engage with 2 shots allowed per target more points for first round hits. You see why the low.recoil slick flying 6 and 6.5 dominate you don't have the time to account for all the variable will affect the .308 so much more. Also light recoil is important so if you miss you see where and can make corrections. As there are no spotters helping the shooter.

Sounds like a lot of fun that I have never heard of before, Are these NRA sanctioned matches or more of a fun shoot and what is this game called ? Steel or paper and can you use rangefinders or do you fly by the seat of your pants ? Sorry for all the questions, I am out of the loop.

No not nra sanctioned. It name is the precision rifle series. They have a web site with all the info. It is all steel targets. Some stages you use the range finder some you have to use the reticle to range and use hold overs no dialing the turrets. It is really up to the match organizer how creative he wants to get. It is really fun and challenging.

They keep points of each match and have a invitational championship match
