so the people saying that turned off amber alerts aren't as cruel and heartless as some of you are perceiving.

Okay, they never had her..... Why cancel the Amber Alert if the child is still missing?

Amber Alerts are for serious abducted children cases where they believe the child is in immediate danger. It sounds to me like nobody has clue what is going on in this instance. How can it take 15 hours in the first place to figure out a 1 year old is missing and then issue an alert with erroneous suspects.

Ever been to Poplar Montana? Family dynamics are pretty unique in alot of cases.

Wow... the amount of hating on the Amber Alert system. Imagine if it was your kid or a child you knew, how would you feel if we all just blew it off as some sort of annoyance and turned shit off. As irritating as they can be they serve a purpose. The kid is still missing, the suspects turned out to not be involved but everyone is still looking for this little girl. They put the alerts out for the kids benefit, not yours - they're not doing a public service so you can sleep. Just floored at some of the responses.

Mine like a couple others on here went off but made no noise. I never turned off the alert setting but always have my phone set of full mute and somehow that's enough to kill the alarm. As for this situation it's remarkable how many amber alerts come out of that wolf point to poplar run. If you've never been there picture more or less fort Totten in the middle of nowhere!

Yes, I've driven through "Stab City". Most of these Amber Alert cases in North Dakota seem to come from similar areas.

First thing i did this morning was google how to turn off amber alert. I get the point of them, but sending one out at 3:30 AM when the kid went missing mid afternoon the day before is beyond idiotic. If they waited that long they can wait until at least 7 AM. Your correct that they did a lot of damage with that bonehead move. Alerts turned off on many phones after last night.

Its no different than tornado alarms these days. They used to only sound them when there was actually a tornado on the ground. Now every time there is a rumble of thunder they are going off in Bismarck. Nobody even pays attention to the damn things anymore.

That was the consensus at my office -- they all have shut them off in the past. If you have a hard line you get a call - if you don't and great majority do not you get the alert. Why not alert as a normal text - show the pictures as they have on the news and the story.

I gots no problem with it. Totally wrecked my night of sleep though too. We had to take a puppy to Rugby vet and didn't get done with that til 2 am. Barely got to sleep before Amber's screaming woke me up. Small price to pay as far as I am concerned. Rugby vet kicks ass by the way.

poorly written law -- in otherwords if I had my phone off -- I would of never received the alert 2. I heard the alert on the radio 3 times this morning nothing to my phone or my wifes 3. no message to say the alert was off.

poorly written law -- in otherwords if I had my phone off Your phone is used in addition to the other methods (radio, electronic billboards) to announce an amber alert-- I would of never received the alert 2. I heard the alert on the radio 3 times this morning Obviously that part of the alert system works nothing to my phone or my wifes huh? I thought it woke you up with an alert this morning 3 . no message to say the alert was off.

FAIL

How did these people that had nothing to do with it end up being "fingered"
man would I be pissed to have my name and description falsely used like that.

If the parents are involved and found to be responsible, and then thru these other two to the wolves..sonofa

I'm going home in 30 minutes, walking straight to my 2.5-year-old son, and giving him a big hug.

I've been afraid of a lot of things in my life: asking a girl out to the prom, getting caught with beer in the dorms, and hunting with people from Wisconsin. But the thing that keeps me awake at night sometimes is the fear that some pedophile, whack job, sicko is going to see my kid one day -- and I'll never get to hug him again.

So by all means...bitch about Amber Alerts. But by God in heaven, if my son or the soon-to-be Kid No. 2 gets lost or stolen, I pray someone who sees them has kept their Alert on so that they're returned to me.

I don't think I'd be able to go on living without my best fishing and hunting buddies...

I don't think people are at all upset about getting a notification-but the ungodly sound my phone made at 330 am and then again an hour later that sent my heart into a different rythem is not the way to do it. I'm suggesting a silent alert during certain hours or something along them lines. That way when we arise from a restful nights sleep, we can notice and read the details about the alert and keep an eye out for the suspected vehicle instead of wondering weather or not we should see a cardiologist........
