Well the ol Block target cant stop the arrows anymore so looking for something else for the backyard. Thinking of a hanging bag target using some 4"x4"s as the outside frame. What are some of the bag targets that you guys have had the best luck with? been looking at yellow jacket ones.. looking for something that isnt a pain in the butt to pull arrows out of and don't have to replace every year. Also if there is better designs for a hanging target, iam all ears...

Thanks for any input!

I have a yellow jacket bag target that's still going strong after four years. Arrows come out nice and easy unless your brother sends a broadhead into it. Heavy, so hanging it from a permanent structure would be ideal.

I am member of a local archery range. We have 5 bags, on our main range. We had the Delta speed bags, they lasted for the past 4 years. From May 1st till September 1st, I would bet that there are close to 7-800 arrow shot each week. We rotate our targets every month, and turn them every year. This helps them from getting shot out. I have no complaints about these bags, as they held up much longer then we thought they would. Arrows were always a breeze to pull out.

This year we have replaced 4 of our 5 targets with the Morrel outdoor range bags($109). They are a lot bigger then the delta speed bags. We have had them for a month now, and have no complaints, they are easy to remove arrows from, and do a great job of stopping arrows. I have to say I really enjoy the 8inch target face with the 14 smaller targets surrounding it. Makes long distance shooting easier, and gives lots of options for @ 20 and 40 yards. If you buy this target, you have to build a sturdy stand for it because they are heavy and awkward 30"x28"x12").

The fifth target is a morel bone-collector target, this is a good target for the $69 it cost at scheels, however at 40+ yards its hard to see the targets.

One thing to remember is to keep a block around for shooting broad heads, as they will tear apart the bags quickly.

As you can see in the 2nd picture, our bag stands are two 4x4 post sunk into the ground 30" apart, we have 2x4 headers at the top and just below the bags for support. Also installed the roof covers to keep the sun and moisture off the bags. Each winter we store them in a shed.

Finally, I have shoot both the yellow jackets (good target for the money) and hurricanes (wouldn't buy again, horrible to pull arrows from).

I like the idea of a permanent bag in the yard... Wonder if I could sell the wife on it:confused:

We tried alot of different targets on the outdoor range at the local club. We eventually got seed bags from somewhere and stuffed them with plastic. Every couple years we would rotate the bag, open up and stuff more material in and it would be good for another year.

I have a yellow jacket it works great for field points... don't have your field points and broadheads mixed up because your wife won't look and she will plug 4 of them into the bag before you realize it and the yellow jacket will have great big 2" holes in it... looking for a block style so i can shoot broadheads into it...

If you have an old block that's lost its stopping power, wrap a ratchet strap around it and cinch it down. Gives you a few hundred more arrows through it.
