Yeah there's no way they would ditch a brand of that size other then on products that are the exact same of their branded items. Cards and points stay as is from what I have seen. Sidney is going to a big hit on this one! I hope this triggers bass pro to be more hunter friendly.

That was part of the reason for purchase. The release said Bass Pro was a leader in fishing while Cabela's was a leader in hunting.

I wonder how they are going to work their warranty on Cabelas branded items? Before, you could walk in with about any Cabelas brand product that had an issue for any reason and they would hand you a new one. Hmmm, time will tell.

Thats my biggest concern as well. I always thought their customer service was excellent. And I truely believe their products were more economical as well as higher quality and I am sure those will be phased out/changed over time. BPS is too southern for me. I feel like cabelas had a more western approach to their gear.

You go to Ft. Leonardwood? (sp?)

Ft Sill,OK we kind of took a route out of the way to see some other stuff my parents wanted to see. BPS had an all you can eat buffet that was a whole floor of all kinds of different food it was one of the best days of my life i pretty much ate all the profits they thought they were going to make till my skinny 135 pound eating machine ass showed up and ate till i could barley walk.

I was thinking how much I used to buy from Cabelas and now it is maybe once a year or two. For a few years they sure threw some money around sending out the hard-cover catalogs. The first place I go now is Amazon. If you don't need it in a hurry, put something on the wish list and watch the price fluctuations. I have also had some good luck with some places out of Northern MN. - Reeds, Glens Army Navy, Marine General and L&M Supply.

Is Goldman Sachs going to own everything in a few years?

I have done a fair amount of business with Cabela's, not much with Bass Pro. Would I prefer to see them stay separate, sure. I was in one Bass Pro Store and to tell the truth it was so big I had a hard time finding what I was looking for. Anytime something like this happens it usually turns out good for the owners as they become worth more but of little benefit to the customer. And for sure of little benefit to many of the employees. Time will tell.

Now what to do? To tell the truth when I was in GF I frequently found the quality of merchandise at Scheels just as good and certainly the service of the SA was better. Do we sometimes think that a more locally owned company doesn't deserve us spending there? Or if you're in the Bismarck area and need fishing gear it's hard to beat Dakota Tackle. I'm not always normal but at the end of the year how much does it really cost us if we pay a little more at a local store as opposed to sending that money to Sidney, NE or Springfield MO?

Life will go on for most of us as if it had never changed.

I've been in a good number of both Cabela's and BPS. I don't see how anyone could go in one store and like it anymore the other. It's almost entirely the exact same stuff in both stores. Granted, a Cabela's in Montana is going to carry stuff that a BPS in Dallas isn't and vice versa. I'm 100% positive that the store will be ran better than before. Not saying that prices are going to stay the same. However, Johnny Morris is a business genius. The man has never made a bad decision in his life.

Also, Cabela's made some poor business decisions that put them in the position that got them bought out in the first place.

Lastly, it's almost always cheaper to buy from other online retailers anyways.

All Cabelas stores deal in used firearms, only a select few BPS do.

Cabelas line of Windshear/Winstopper clothing is superior to anything BPS has.

Gun Libraries.

Bargain Caves.

I find the Cabelas branded rods much more appeasing compared to the BPS ones but then all I fish for is walleyes. I have been to a few BPS down south and I can say the only think I have purchased is a few t shirts. I did get a sick deal on yellow frabill thermal tip ups from BPS for $7 a piece back in the day.

Cabelas is starting up decent promotions again and they sure did snag me in to make some orders. I have also been finding decent sales on random items for much less than any online retailer or amazon.

From the Cabelas website:

To Our Loyal Cabela's Customers,

We announced that Cabela's will merge with Bass Pro Shops and, upon closing of the transaction, will begin a multi-year partnership with Capital One whereby Capital One will exclusively service the Cabela's CLUB Visa card. Additional details regarding this announcement can be found here http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=177739&p=irol-irhome in our news release.

We're really excited about joining forces with Bass Pro Shops to create the truly premier retailer in outdoor sporting goods. We will be able to provide you with access to more locations and the greatest selection of outdoor recreation equipment and apparel in North America.

We have worked hard to ensure that this process is seamless to you. We currently expect to complete the transactions in the first half of 2017, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. Until closing, Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops will continue to operate as separate, independent companies, as they always have. Additionally, we will continue to honor and offer Cabela's Gift Cards. Please know that we remain committed to upholding the trusted relationship we have built with you and are focused on providing the exceptional service and experiences you have come to expect from us.

For our CLUB members, following the closing of the transaction, we expect to operate the Cabela's CLUB program without change or interruption. You will see no change to how you earn, save or use your CLUB points. You will retain your current CLUB point balance and continue to accrue CLUB points.

Thank you for your continued support of Cabela's.

Sincerely,

Tommy Millner
Chief Executive Officer
