I think you’re wrong marble. We’ve been chasing countries offshore for a long time. The corporate tax rate is now just average with the world. As a start: https://www.google.com/amp/amp.timeinc.net/time/5074911/tax-reform-bill-company-investments-bonuses

I could be, we will see. I actually read that very article earlier today. The at&t one isn’t that suprising considering they are trying to get the ok to purchase time warner and possibly trying to bypass being considered a possible monopoly. What better way to get the ok from this administration.
Look, I’m not debating that our corporations were being competitively taxed compared to the rest of the world because they weren’t. I also know the majority of corporations never paid the 35% tax because of all the loopholes they helped create to bring their tax rates down. These tax cuts for individuals are temporary but the corporate cuts are permanent. The deficit is what concerns me. If this creates more revenue than it loses, good deal and I hope it does and we really need it to. If not, well, I guess what’s another trillion or two right?

The thing with the deficit increase is that sure... Obama and Bush and Bush and Bush, etc... all ran deficits. I get that. But, supposedly this builds on those deficits. It would be different if we were only gonna be at a 1.5 trillion dollar deficit after 10 years. But, the way I understand this, it adds an additional 1.5 trillion. That's just plain crazy it doesnt matter how much $ it puts in my pocket. If it expands the economy and the numbers end up being wrong, that's great! But, the enthusiasm given the current predictions confuse me.

So with this tax plan, I am wondering what does this tax plan do for jobs futures especially in the municipal areas of state and local infrastructure.

How about letting those whose money it is anyway decide what to do with their OWN money rather than letting the Govt decide? I know..a concept for most Dem's fail to comprehend.;:;banghead

That was supposed to say chasing “companies”not countries off shore in case anyone that was confused. And I agree, the deficit needs to be addressed by cutting spending. No way around that. The individual tax cuts expiring does not concern me. They’ll address it again at that time.

What's wrong with my question about a tax refund i asked 3rooster why such abrasive response. I agree 100 percent do as you like the question about tax refund has nothing to do with government spending.

Interesting but just as important, they need to cut the shit out of spending. Never ever going to happen I think.

I agree, but the problem is they never spend the time to get into the details and get rid of the real waste and abusers of our financial help. Instead they always take the easy chicken shit way out and just do across the board cuts. And unfortunately, that means those who really need the help like the truly disabled, elderly, and poorest of children always bear the brunt of the cuts and just end up going further into poverty and ill health. IMO the perfect start would be to require anyone receiving financial assistance to be required to go on birth control. They have a shots that are good for months at a time and unless a person has a real health issue that doesn't allow them to do that it should be a requirement. If you can't afford what you have you need to stop having! Unfortunately, the bible thumping far right won't allow that. Instead they require everyone to preach abstinence and one only needs to look around to see how well that works.

With the republicans controlling it all they could take a knife to anything bullshit item that we don't need to spend money on. It would be a huge undertaking but now is absolutely the time.

Not sure what changes I’ll see in February to my paycheck but I think the owners of my company are excited about the tax plan. Received an email from them on Thursday that since we’re having such a good year they gave each of us (~250 employees) a $1000 bonus. My buddy has been with the company for 19 years and they’ve had great years before and the owners haven’t done a Xmas bonus before. And they are by no means stingy on their generosity so I think the tax plan has them excited about their savings in 2018.

Lincoln, kinda...
Worm,

I'd say your friend is wrong. The bureaucrats with ability to sway policy are political appointees. They go with the politicians.

Those that stay are career federal employees and their ability to affect policy is very minimal, rather they are expected to live with whatever policies are handed to them for their implementation and enforcement. Or they risk getting fired or re-assigned, it happens all the time.

Just did my taxes tonight and holy hell what a difference from 2016 taxes...... in a good way

You must be one of the lucky ones. Thought the majority of the provisions don’t take effect until you file your 2018 taxes. From what I understand there are only a few retroactive provisions that you can apply to your 2017 taxes. I didn’t think the irs was even done with their regulations for the new tax bill. Maybe I’m wrong. Are there any cpa’s on here who can clarify?

From the best of my knowledge as well the recent tax bill applies to the current year(the taxes you will be figuring out a year from now) changes in with-holding from the new law should start next month.

Actually I had some calls some r starting already. Keep in mind though if u owed April 18 and you didn't change your withholding allowances you will most likely owe April 19. You rec'd the difference in your paycheck. I don't how many people expect both a reduction of withholding and to get back a larger refund. It would be nice but the theory behind it is to put money in your pocket now so we don't face the upcoming recession
