A landowner that allows a certain number of hunters on their property can already get a cow tag.

I have never heard anything like that. I do know when my Daughter, and Son and myself had Elk tags out west. The only landowner that would let us hunt. Was a landowner that wouldn't take a gratis tags. He said if he wants a Elk he will just shoot one. I have never seen such greedy landowners as them out West. It was the samething every year. When we get are Elk we will let you on. They never let anyone on.

Yup . And the gf does nothing to help tag holders . Nothing

Only way I would apply for one of these leftover cow tags is if it didn’t count as your once in a lifetime tag . But who knows I’m sure they’ll find a clever way to complicate it

I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if we will ever get to the point where a cow tag does not count as your once in a lifetime. My wife had a cow tag last year that she unfortunately didn't fill. The rancher who's land we hunted on told us G&F is looking at this and he heard they are discussing that if you draw a cow tag, you can put in again after 5 years or something like that.

Gotta acknowledge its a good sign we are having this discussion about cow permits. It means elk hunting/opportunity in the state has never been better. I was not confident that we would end up here during the TR elk reduction, but here we are.

Yep the only problem , is that with more elk comes more greed = less access . More gratis elk and less access imo
