I've heard a TC Contender with a super 14 barrel in 30-30 with factory round nose 150 gn pills works pretty well on dinner out to about 150 yds, but again, that's just what I've heard.

I had a super 16 in 223. Shot the 30-30 you describe. 150 with roundnose is about right. The favorite with the guy I know is the 125 Ballistic Tip. A friend also shoots a 45/70. I have never shot that gun.

Had a roommate who bought a 45-70 Mosin nagant and he thought it was just the baddest gun because he could put a bayonet on it. Then he shot it offhand for the first time. Never heard another word about that gun.

My cousin had a single shot 45-70 handgun. Why? No effing clue.
