We bought a couple black ice plum trees two years ago and 30 below temps for 10 days killed them both. Only plum variety I've lost to cold. Haven't had any problems with the other varieties including Superior with those temps. Just an FYI. Good Luck!!!

Don't have any branches for you, but I see where you're going with it. Found this the other day. You may find it interesting. I have an overgrown apple tree I need to trim. Going to try and get some to root.

Not sure youll have much luck rooting apples from cuttings, but interested to hear how it goes. Ive heard black ice is borderline for this area, too bad. Any other suggestions for varieties that will pollinate Superior and are worth having? I just wanna graft a branch onto my tree and now is the time! KDM wanna mail me a twig?

I can grab the suckers that are coming off the base, but I think those are NOT the black ice variety. I would sooner think those are from whatever root ball they put the black ice on. I'll look to see if there are any viable branches. PM sent.

We also have Waneta, Toka, Pipestone, and some MN variety that the closest we can get is an american plum. Let me know if you'd like some of them and I'll get some to you. Keep in mind the going rate per branch when choosing. Thanks!! (Grin)

Thanks, we can swap, Ill give you a Superior branch for whatever you bring me. I can show you how to graft them if you havent done it before also... Its not too tough! The suckers coming from the dead black ice are some hardy rootstock Im sure, you could choose one and let it grow and then graft a different variety to it tho possibly. Ive got a reliance peach that looks like it made it through the winter also, should be able to graft peach to plum if you wanted to try it.... Its on its 2nd year, my Contender made it 4 years before ND killed it!

Thanks Lycan, I already have 3 Superior plums and I've killed off enough peach trees to know those don't work well where I'm at. Might try to graft something onto the root stock, but more than likely I'll just buy two whole new trees and be done with it. I'd rather have two years of growth on a new transplant than waiting a couple years to see if a graft will take and not get a disease. Do you want a branch from all three varieties or just a couple?
