Boat floor

I have carpet on my boat floor which is permanent. I want to remove it and put down a paint type covering which isn’t slippery. The floor of the boat is fiberglass under the carpet. What’s the best options ?

Most likely the glue will leave the back of the carpet down atleast when i redone my floor in my boat it did.
A wire brush or these work the best to get most of that glue off
Dont use a solvent because its hard to get clean after, unless you can use hot water pressure washer. Because you can whipe it down with acetone but you can never get it all

You won't be sorry , I'ts awesome to have a washdown hose handy and use it many time a day, a clean boat keeps the flies from moving in on ya.

Rocksolid Deck Coat might be something to look at. I was looking for a truck box coating type product for the floor of our enclosed snowmobile trailer. Wanted to find something that wasn't slippery, would stick to wood / painted wood well, that could be reapplied without issues, and would water proof the floor from melting sleds. Ended using deck coat which has worked very well. if you want a textured or rougher finish, just use their specified product roller and roll it one more time once it start to setup and get tacky and it'll leave it very textured. if you want it smooth, just roll it out and it'll self level. have a spot that something sharp wears through, and you can just clean that area and reapply right over the top. I just used black but you can get it in any color. FYI, it is a very thick product so you will use quite a bit more than you think.

Boat builders should give more options. Carpet should be an upgrade. I hate carpet.

Aquatraction and sea deck are awsome, however it’ll be serious coin to get it done. Bow and cockpit area is probably $2k these days, maybe more.

FYI, after re-reading the OP. Not sure deck coat will stick well to fiberglass. Missed that, was thinking it was wood.

Just like any smooth surface if you can rough up the finish you should be able to get the expoxy to stick to it. Using my post first picture disk attachment for you grinder should surffice.

I think removing the carpet and glue will be the toughest part of the job. I’m also looking at putting down vinyl boat flooring or EVA like aqua traction.

It’s an older tracker boat. And was someone else’s boat. The carpet is wore bad and has a few holes.

I wonder how it would turn out if you went right over the carpet ?

Belt sander with course belt would get the majority, hand sanding the close quarters. That way it would be roughed up when applying final product for good adherence

I agree, Carpet in fishing boat sucks. When I bought my boat, carpet was factory default. Told dealer I wanted vinyl flooring instead. He balked at the idea but factory said they would make the swap. Went to pick up the boat when it came in and the dealer was gushing over how good it looked without carpeting. When I have to finally replace the vinyl, I will probably go with a roll on product like tuff coat or dura bak.
