Some pretty reckless people out there for sure. Surround yourself with good people and don't hunt the public land with 10 other trucks parked at it.
I'll be there for 9 days this year. Even if I tag out opening morning, rifle camp with the guys is too valuable a time to head home early.

Never forget when I was in college (40 years ago) and one of my friends from MN came home from a weekend hunt and I asked him if he got anything. He said nope, but "I got a couple of sound shots.". I asked him what a sound shot was and when he told me I was dumbfounded. I said no way anybody would hunt like that and he said you had to or you would never get a deer. Unbelievable! He was bow hunting and he told me he saw the bushes shake and was drawing to shoot when the bushes shot first! Arrow missed him by a couple of feet and it was all OK cause nobody got hurt. Real story!

That is effing ridiculous

ha ha - here's the top killers in MN

Careless handling of firearm
Failure to check beyond target
Failure to identify target

sound is an exaggeration - but shooting at "movement in the bushes" is pretty common

You notice the snowmobile stats? I was absolutely floored when I started to pay attention to their lack of care in riding sleds. I remember one winter in the 90s where they had well over 20 fatalities. Good to see they have tamed that down a bit. I took a quick gander and the number seems to be about half of that over the past few years.

I'll likely be hunting here MN. Heard a rumor of a nice buck near the parents place so I think I'll have to slip up there and take care of that for them!

No sound shots from me or anyone I have ever hunted with. But I would be lying if I didn't know of some examples. Actually had a guy hunting the neighbors property shoot over me while I was bow hunting down in a swamp. Scared the S**T out of me as I did not know he was there. Pops was non too pleased either.

Best of luck to all who venture out.

best of luck to all , be safe. Theres morons in ND too, bad accidents can happen anywhere if people aren't responsible. One thing we don't put up with is nonsense, our group is small now cuz no one can get tags hardly but we have a good group. No shots that you aren't 1000% sure of background, and absolutely no beer/booz until after dark when guns are put away. little common sense goes a long long way, be safe and have fun ! excited to see pics from mn opener.
