20k is probably the necessary number to provide a stable fishery. I highly doubt they assume 100% put and take.
How about some steelhead? Or stocking Cisco or lake herring…..whenever I hear about about reasons to not try to reintroduce lake trout I hear excuses but no valid reasons that couldnt be achieved without a bit of effort….the east end isnt exactly known as a walleyes factory like further upriver…..throw some steelhead or browns in and see what happens
it just seems to me rhey are stuck on walleyes in ND and will pump millions into stocking unsustainable lakes but can’t give a bit of effort to ramp up our cold water fisheries into something even better…..
They all died, no more big tailrace troutWhat happened to the giant trout in the tailrace?
Why don’t they put more of those in there. They all died, no more big tailrace trout
Because they died, there's like a virus or something that kills themWhy don’t they put more of those in there.
Right and I totally agree. Im sure they factor in mortality rate upon stocking and probably have an idea of how many fish will even make it past the first month…. So they assume a lot of fish are going to die by natural mortality and then they factor in angler harvest as well. That’s kind of my point as well. They know that it’s inevitable they’ll have mortality. And actually the mortality rate in a probably 95% of our little lakes is 100%. Without stocking efforts there wouldnt be fish. So if there’s no harm to the forage nor any severe impact why not dump 5k lakers in sakakawea sporadicallyI think natural mortality rate (i.e. getting eating by bigger things, croaking from stress/diseases, etc.) far outpaces our ability or inability to tease them out of the water on hook and line...
Cool story broI think they should kill all of Sakakawea and stock just snook and tarpon…they’ll probably all die but maybe it would be fun if one lived to be caught….#walleye and salmon suck
They tried what you want. It didn’t work. They aren’t going to possibly jeopardize the more popular fishery to retry things that didn’t work with our water temps and forage. Sak isn’t Peck or Oahe. If you want to go catch lakers go to PeckCool story bro
They tried it 35 years ago……. Try again…. I apologize Im not the shrug my shoulders and accept the “thats just how it is” types of attitude. Im not content standing in a circle….reverse palming my Johnson with the rest of the huk crowd over a bunch of 14” walleyes…. Welp boys they tried 35 years ago one time, shit good enough for me I guess. If it’s a temp thing… and they don’t do well on smelt then throw some in…see what happensThey tried what you want. It didn’t work. They aren’t going to possibly jeopardize the more popular fishery to retry things that didn’t work with our water temps and forage. Sak isn’t Peck or Oahe. If you want to go catch lakers go to Peck
I think they are trying things to try and take care of the blue gill and bull head population. They have been stocking tiger trout in there as well. Part of me thinks they should just kill the entire thing and start over. And why the hell would they put catfish in fish creek![]()
Whirling disease?Because they died, there's like a virus or something that kills them
No, it's called imfullofshitiosis...its a virus designed to keep other anglers attention away from what I'm doing until Ive reached my goal of a trout over 20lbsWhirling disease?
I know ND isn't immune to whirling disease, but also didn't know it was that big of a problem. Or, maybe there's another pathogen?
Those are your words, don’t recall anyone remotely mentioning that in this thread.thats a win win might catch a trout or we can bitch n moan about how useless n incompetent the fish n game are
