This cabin fever is getting spendy. With open water coming (eventually), I am doing my ritual spring spending spree. New rods. Gear. Reels. Etc ...

Anyone else have this issue? What did you buy?

I have this same issue in the fall ...

Bought another Scheels spinning rod, so I had to order and get a couple spinning reels on the way,(always need a spare), as well as have a couple line counters coming in the mail. Havnt decided what rods I want yet to put the line counters on. So will be at least 2 more rods for me.

I had knee surgery 3 weeks ago so I'm pretty much homebound. I do however take pleasure in the fact that one of our own (Will Aide) placed 12th in a major bass tourney down south. I watched this pup grow up and mature under the tutelage of an exceptional father, mentor and heck of a sportsman. We should all get behind and support his efforts.

Bought one spinning reel, but the boat is still in ice dock so I really haven't started yet. Once Dad and I get to snooping around the boat whenever this garbage weather lets up, my list will begin and the lightening of the wallet will soon follow.

What do you guys do with your old stuff? Do you just keep stock piling it?

My older, but very serviceable stuff usually gets donated to the good will store so they can sell it. I have also, on occasion, been known to see youngsters muddin' on the river with less than optimal equipment or tackle and just go over and hand them stuff to use. Most try to give back what I give them when they leave, which is amazing and gives me hope for the future, but light up when I tell them to just keep it. I've spooled quite a few reels with new line for kids when I see them cast a slinky instead of fishing line. The looks on their faces is priceless. I just gave away my old compound bow to a 10 year old who's father is taking it to scheels to have it tuned, turned down, and serviced so his son can practice with it this summer. The look on that kids face when he looked at his father as if to ask "Can I have it?" was awesome. It opens some space in the garage for me and the kids learn lessons about decency and good behavior. Win/Win as far as I'm concerned.
