One of my favorite types of fishing is backpacking/camping for catfish on public land, typically along the Yellowstone and Missouri. I did lots of it in Montana and explored the WMAs in ND for the first time. I found alot of great looking water but all of the WMAs are closed to camping. Is that a recent or temporary ban? I have no interest in paying a fee for services I dont want in designated lots. I may camp in the badlands and then drive to the river during the day.

Here is the game and fish regs for wma

If I recall alot of them out west started to restrict camping due to the influx of people during the oil boom and them using wmas as rv parks turning them into man camps. I believe some were eased up on a couple of days during the week to discourage long term camping.

That makes sense. Thankyou. Some of them have camping allowed on certain days of the week etc.
