I always wondered what happened to him.

Del Dvorcheck. I went to school with his kids. Guy was a riot.

I bet the AIM Championship this weekend will be run perfect. Maybe they will take over the New Town stretch of the lake for the next few years. Plus all the big girls go back into the lake!!

Should be a cake walk with 27 or 29 teams in it. Look forward to not having to make decisions. Only thing I could think about was how many teams were culling since only could have 7 fish. I know one team was caught by another team doing it. Not sure if they turned them in or not.

This is friggen rediculous. Two scales??? This is what happens when you have some clowns that have never fished a tourney running a tournament. The people that fish these thing take this crap very seriously put a ton of time and money into prefishing and equipment and they use two scales? The fishermen should have been yelling about the two scales being used. Thats just flat out stupidity. Then to not make it right? All the first day weights should have been canceled. No way would I ever fish this tourney. I didn't fish it and it still pisses me off.

Sounds like just about any function or activity on the reservation. You simply cannot assume it will be run like something off the res. Forget about on time, forget about following any procedure, rules, enforcement, etc... we lived a year on the res, and I learned to stop questioning the obvious and go with the flow. Kept my hair. I have had enough trouble finding their baitstore open when it is supposed to be to not worry about missing their tournament.

I believe this is spot on and thus my previous comment about other shenanigans at Reservation Casino's, not necessarily fishing tournaments but gaming machines. I prefer to play/waste my hard earned dollar at a some local town blackjack table IMPO. Its just one mans opinion but it is mine.

Been living on a Rez for 20 years, the last few posts nailed it. People in positions of some authority with absolutely no clue. I grew up right next to one but had no idea how bad it really was. Laziness and incompetence are the norm, and these are the people with jobs.

Anywhere in this country that I have been and the locals have been receiving decades of Federal aid, handouts, etc.... is this way. Anyone wanting to vote Hillary needs to spend a week on a res to see what more Federal goverment really means.

You have a good point there. Those machines are regulated by no one. Well... No one that would say anything. A guy like me would lose his entire business if my machines didn't pass an inspection.

why anyone would donate that kind of money to the natives to piss away is beyond comprehension.

That's why the AIM tournaments are attractive. Can't cheat and the fish return to the water right away

Federallys regulate the gaming per US law and the state I believe enforces it through UND fan Wayne S. and they can prosecute --- the casino in the SE got nicked for machines being under the acceptable range not that long ago if I remember correctly (maybe it was in SD).

Idk. Not a fair statement. In previous years there has been no major issues. Last year was a bit of a strange occurrence. Paperwork and posts on Facebook said boundary was extended to the north from its traditional location of Pouch Ramp. But they didn't get markers out and at rules meeting people were asking. The easiest thing for them at that time was to just say at rules meeting was Pouch ramp. It was the right thing to do since no markers were out.

The winner claimed boundary still according to paperwork and posts on Facebook. But at rules it was Pouch ramp. So in everyone's opinion he should have been DQ'd and I agree. That said, I can understand the situation enough to shrug it off.

The events this year are unacceptable. I can tolerate the flight debacles. But the scale issue is not tolerable. Trust me, I let Ray know my opinion. I was speaking up. They did not want to admit the scale is off. The only thing they could do was throw day one weights away. But they didn't.

I still fished. I was reluctant. My voice was heard through their ears again at the end of the day. I wanted to prove to myself I could go out and get a good bag. That was enough for me.

Why did I post this? I take a little offense to being asked why I would fish it. There was no reason not to. Today the cell phone has gotten a lot of people money by sending texts. People who cheat will cheat. That said again, I fish tournaments because I like the competitive edge. I live/grew up in New Town. I like the community but this was a hard pill to swallow. It sucks as I really like it because home water, no camping or hotel bills. But I will be thinking long and hard next year.

I am still bothered more fishermen didn't fess up to having extra weight. They could have fixed this early.

This kind of reminds me of the tournament at Tschida put on by a bar in which the buddies of the owner usually took the top prizes. I don't think the powers in charge of the Casino tourney intentionally try to cheat the fisherman, but they have no idea what they're doing.

DWC runs one scale and it goes fairly quickly. The only hiccup this year was weather related. No reason 20 more boats should cause this many problems.

I fished the tournament this year as well and there were lots of issues from the get go. It was a struggle to get boats off on time and it didn't matter if you were the 1st or 2nd flight. On Day 1 half of the 2nd flight took off at 745 which was the scheduled start time and the rest were told to come in 15 minutes later than scheduled due to not getting off on time. On Day 2 we were the first flight and in line super early and the road straight down to the ramp (day 1 route) was blocked off and they had us circling through the campground. By the time I got to the inspection area I figured out what was taking so long and it was because they started letting trucks come down the route that they didn't let us take initially causing 2nd flight boats to get inspected and in the water before some of the first flight guys who were there earlier.
Then there comes the scale issues that everyone has heard about on day 1. On day 1 we weighed 5 fish that were 19 3/4" - 21.5" and we only scaled 14.17 lbs (17-18 lbs on the north scale) which seemed a little light to me but there was nothing I could do about it. I knew the leaders were 10lbs out on us so we needed a big basket on Day 2 as there was a lot of ground to make up. Knowing some of those top teams used the scale that was giving them an extra 3-4 lbs really had us pissed off as 6-7 pounds is a lot easier to cover than 10lbs is. Needless to say we ran north and within the first 5 seconds of our first crank hitting the water we had a 20" fish in the livewell. We didn't go much further and all 4 rods were banging with fish so I grabbed the back one and skied it in while I left the side rod just hanging as I dealt with unhooking the first one, especially since I figured it was the cookie cutter 17-18" fish that we kept throwing back. A couple minutes passes as I get the fish unhooked and released and the trebles pulled out of my sweatshirt so I finally get around to dealing with the fish that has been holding on for a few minutes and as soon as I grabbed the rod I knew it was a better fish....turned out to be a 23.5" walleye that was 5.5lbs. We turned around and picked up a 21.5" fish and then things slowed a little bit but it was only 730 and we had 3 pretty good fish in the well. We made a move to our next spot and picked up a 22.5" fish that was fat and puking up smelt so now we had 4 and I was guessing we were cutting into that big deficit we were faced with. We added one more 21.25" fish to the well and I knew we were awfully close to 20lbs but I had to verify with my own scale before getting the boat loaded. I set all the fish in a bucket (added to the boat the night before after the Day 1 scale issues) and my scale was reading a touch over 22lbs. I knew the bucket was a little over 2 lbs which put us somewhere between 19-20lbs and we scaled 19.52lbs which was the 6th biggest basket of the day and jumped us up to finish a legitimate 15th. I know of atleast 5 teams that finished ahead of me that used the North scale on day 1 so if that wouldn't have happened it could have been better or atleast tighter at the top but the fishing was phenomenal overall.
