Big damn difference if we drop 15 inches of snow on an area and a town already three feet deep with snow vs a storm like this in a normal year. Many people up here especially in Bismarck have never seen what that can be like. Hell many streets here in town are still narrowed by a half a lane or more in many spots and and storm like this would likely shut the town down completely for a couple days. Bunch of people born after the mid 90's have never seen a storm where you cant go anywhere including out of the driveway.

Well it's stacking up to be about the worst case scenario for the critters here in VC land. We had 35 degrees and it F'n RAINED here at the house today. We now have a nice hard icy crust on the snow. With a fair to middlin' chance to add a foot or so of snow on TOP of that crust, it's not a real positive outlook. I hope the forecasts are wrong, cuz if they aren't, the critters are going to have a DEVIL of a time digging through all that to find some grub. Every rooster I shot these past 2 days had full crops so they were doing fine to this point. Don't know how widespread the temps and rain were, but I hope the fields melted open enough with the temps and wind to moderate this next event should it arrive as predicted.

I remember the 96/97 winter. That was great to be able to sled a massive hill in the lot next to my parents house. Then I tried to ride my bike down it and whacked my bean bag.

Yeah we got to near 40 here as well and the snow crusted up pretty well. Food is rarely an issue with pheasants so starvation is rare. Whats going to be the big problem from what I saw today was most of the good cover has been filled in and even in the bigger belts they have little cover left other then just the tree trunks so wind driven snow is going to be a lethal combination I fear.

IF the wind comes from the south east like I hear I m screwed. My yard has no protection from that angle and a quarter section of rolled bean field is not going to hold any snow. Which reminds me better bring gas home for snowblower.

I have read from reliable sources that these storms are being financed and planned by kyle kirchmeier ( sorry if I spelt his name wrong ) and the Morton county gestapo. we should call them and complain.

Reminds me of the story "the boy who cried wolf".....a storms coming, a storms coming,....but we don't know where it's going. Who cares, if it snows move the shit, it's not like it's the first time it snowed here

Can't you see we're trying to engage in a little healthy panic? You're really harshing my mellow man.

Ironically, you also spelled "spelled" wrong. You need to give us snowflakes a trigger warning when you're going to do shit like that.

I live in the middle of an alfalfa field with no protection till about 20 years from now when the trees get bigger. Drifts get high enough they will eventually block the house

If I wasn't so busy at work and promised a snow fort to my 5 year old, I would pick up a couple 1.75's and stay pretty well zipped during this one. Man I hate a lot of snow.

Per Tom the weatherman at 6 pm the potential storm is still 3000 miles away. on the other hand we have enough snow for the next 10 years, I am wearing the seat out on my road grader trying to keep ahead of the damn wind let alone any more snow.

All the deer are going to die, all the upland birds are going to die, all the fur bearers are going to die, all the fish are going to die due to winter kill. So it looks like we'll just have to hunt geese again for the next 5 yrs until things recover. Or we can take trips to wisconsin.

NOAA has updated the forecast showing the snowing ending mid-late Monday. The wind predictions have also gotten worse. Just called ma and we're cutting Christmas short, heading back to our place late Saturday or maybe early Sunday.

Im happy for the snow. Our lakes and rivers need this. Everyone do the upland game and deer a favor and shoot a coyote!

Yup might as well call into work and hunt nonstop the next few days. Thin out the competition!
