That sounds like something a Sconi would say.... :;:

I've never thought of enhancing my water spread with anything other than more duck decoys. And even then, I think the most I've ever put out was five dozen. Otherwise it's a dozen or less for me (plus a spinner).

Then again, I don't hunt divers much. I hear they take a bit more numbers to get the drawing power desired.

We usually only throw a few dozen and 1 or 2 mojos out as well...He read something and got a wild hair. We like to hunt with a small spread so we can pack up early and jump some sloughs after our morning sit.

Has anyone ever seen a flock of coots flying in migration?

I always just assumed they burrowed down into the mud like frogs instead of migrating:;: the dirty little buggers

I like to use the drake diver decoys with white backs when hunting mallards or divers. The white backs are seen by much farther distance away and have a great drawing power. By hey let the anti diver snobs stick with their all mallard spreads!

I have heard about swans, Herron, and coots being good confidence decoys, but in my neck of the woods not much is needed to bring in unpressured birds.

What decoys you using exactly?

The reason you never see Coots migrating is because they turn into muskrats in the fall.

back in h.s. me and a buddy went out after football practice to try a few sneaks before sunset. we were running low on t
light and came upon a slough full if mallards tucked up to a submerged road bed. we snuck down the oplosite ditch and belly crawled the last 25 yards. we popped over the road and expected a flurry of greenhead to bust into the air. instead we were smack dab in the middle of a flock of big black hillaries(coots). we looked at each other and had the "screw it" look so we reigned our fury on the flock of..... 30...ish coots. we both took an oath to never speak of this to anyone ever...... today i break my silence. felt good to let that out.

Buffleheads, canvasback, and goldeneye drakes. All the drakes have white backs. The brands I run are GHG and Hidgon

I intend to puddle jump this fall but I will now take to coots like a coyote during deer season. Better to kill a bunch of coots than bag 1 more gadwall or teal.

I always just figured coots were competing for habitat. Now that I see they're killing ducks I'll be out hunting coot.

Coots, crows, cormorants, etc. can anyone truly tell me why black lives matter?

Kids today are really missing out. Most of our practice targets when we were young were coots running across the water with 22 rounds bouncing around them. G&F back then turned their eye. Nowadays, you'd probably make national news and have a punishment worse than being caught selling kilo's of drugs on school grounds.

I shot a dandy of a coot last year that I would like to get mounted. Looking for a a place that specializes in waterfowl near Grand Forks. Does anyone have experience with Rough Rider Gamebird Taxidermy? I hear he has a quick turnaround and is very responsive to texts/calls. thanks in advance.
