Id like to hear more about the Oahe crappies, any tips about where to try? Might be fun for the kids, but theres a lot of water for them to hide in down there....

Both lakes would be fun if a guy could figure them out. but like you said there is a lot of water for them to hide in.

Bays with trees and a good feeder creek. 30 plus big crappie days are not unusual

This is on oahe. I have ever found about 10 feet to be good this time of year. Alot of times we troll flicker shad on the edge of trees to find them and then cast and work specific spots once located.

I have found them in the trees --- walleye spots. The thing is about crappies ---- they don't get along with walleyes. If you start catching a lot of them ---- your walleye pop is going down. Same with largemouth. I don't know if it lack of IQ or what but the smarter fish don't get along with walleyes (walleye fry are easy pickin for them big mouths and white lips).

I have caught crappies every time I have fished the ND side of oahe. Generally along the banks - close to trees.

How deep are they this time of year? I would assume they come up pretty shallow soon to spawn?

Any bridge that has the support/pilings into the lake can be good too. Can find them in 50 feet of water, suspended. Or anywhere in between. I fished Sak for a lot of years and never ever heard of a crappie being caught let alone seeing one. Down here it is getting fairly common.

Seriously thinking of traveling to Beaver creek Bay to give it a try. Long haul from Minot but have been wanting to try for crappie down that way for a while. I would assume I cold have a shot at a few in that area:confused:

I caught a few fishing for the casino tournament last year. I kept them to see how they taste but have not gotten to them yet. I hear they are tasty.

They eat good, just don't expect anything magic.
