Creek chubs

How far upstream on feeder creeks can one generally find creek chubs? How far away from the main river should I search? Would I be foolish to check out the headwaters of a creek that are 10-15 miles upstream of the main river?

Not foolish at all, I find them in a creek that's closer to 30 miles from a river.

I've gotten them 15+miles from Ashtabula many years ago.

Is there creek chubs in the James River system?
