Sure are a lot of experts full of bs. If your not finished with college you start at GS3. In 1971 I started at $6300 and no benefits. A four year degree will get you a GS5, a masters a GS7, and a doctorate will start you at a GS11. A bachelor's degree and 35 to 40 years will get you a GS11. You had to be published and respected in the world scientific community to make GS15 which was considered executive service.
The benefits they talk about giving actually come out of that salary so uncle Sam can tax them. Most federal employees don't realize they have made a mistake working for uncle Sam until they are to far in to start a second career.
I enjoyed the work, but not the growing like a monster regulations that went with it. I told a colleague when my time was up I would leave so fast it would suck the papers off his desk.
