Hi guys, been lurking for a while now and not looking to troll, but I work in the area they plan on building this thing and can’t see a downside to it. Belfield gets some much needed economic activity and it’s South of Hwy 10/hardly visible from the Interstate, not really that close to the Badlands either (my favorite hunting area) just sayin...

The production side jobs in the oilfield are secure, Drilling end, Not so much. Refineries make sense given our geological location.

If I lived in Fargo, and hunted for two weeks a year in the Badlands, I would be livid. But, meh

Growth to the west,Growth to the east , Us in the middle make the least. Best of both worlds for me as a tax payer.

This article shows the proposed location just a couple miles west of Belfield: http://www.keyzradio.com/north-dakota-agency-asks-for-more-data-in-refinery-proposal/

Was/is there another proposed location? This location is in Billings county (barely).

Hell this is the industrial area a half mile south east of the location so the area is definitely not some sort of pristine spot.

gone-fishin thanks to you and dean nelson for those maps. I read the description and pictured it differently. I don't have a big problem with that location, but the politics of it sure stinks. Local corruption (conflicting interests) involved it looks like to me. Although I will have to say that with the rail line location it does make more sense. Maybe it's on the up and up. I have been known to change my mind once or twice when I run into calm reasonable people. :)

Yeah once I see the location on the map it makes more sense. I’ll admit I didn’t do my part and look into it further. South of interstate, between Belfield and the terminal, not as bad as I thought it would be. As long as they do their due diligence and it’s actually economical to operate, the pros should outweigh the cons.

Thanks for the link to the article. But I don’t take stock in the validity of it since it was written by a legislature who sugar coats things. If they are comparing this to the Dickinson refinery then how can they have 3 to 4 times the jobs than Dickinson? I’m sorry .... I forgot that politicians don’t lie.

Thanks again for the link.

Really don't see any cons to the refinery and its location. The location is already a industrial site. I think the people who are against it just don't realize where its actually going to be located. The location maps posted should clear it up for the nay sayers I would think. Of course, libtards don't want anything built anywhere, but that's a whole different breed who will protest no matter what is proposed.
I assume there is a oil pipeline in place already for this refinery to utilize? If not, we may have a DAPL II protest to contend with and pay for.
