How many hunters ended up with rifle & muzzy or rifle, muzzy, and bow?

These numbers are for 2016 - I had asked for them or the 2017 #'s back in December 2017 but since bow tags could still be sold, they didn't have the numbers readily available so 2016 numbers were provided.

22,681 Resident bow tags purchased for 2016
1,874 residents had both gratis deer and a bow tag
6,235 people that bought bow licenses did not apply for gun tags.

16,118 purchased a bow tag and applied for the lottery - of those only
6,940 residents had both a deer lottery and a deer bow tags.

13,466 resident gratis tags were issued in 2016
69,917 applied for lottery and did not apply for gratis
Approx. 34,970 tags were available after gratis removed, youth do not take away from this total.

72,112 applicants

plenty of leftover doe tags in the 2nd lottery and likely be plenty left over to purchase. true you have a travel a bit maybe. but dont say there "isnt tags" becasue there certainly is.

can tell you some of my most enjoyable hunts ate with my wife, young boys with and we shoot "a stupid doe" nothing like a 5 year old, 3 year old watching you reload bullets, practice at the range, sit in a blind, watch the kill, gutting, cleaning, butchering, all the way to the table.

it is about memories isn't it......stop complaining about the system grab a leftover tag go hunt.

Archery added to the lottery .

Ok, fair enough

1,874 residents had both gratis deer and a bow tag - these are now freed up tags.
6,940 residents had both a deer lottery and a deer bow tags. - these are now freed up tags.

for a total of 8814 which is the number you came up with.

BUT, since archery is now included. We MUST include the bow only guys as well.

That's another 6,235 people that bought bow licenses did not apply for gun tags that now have to put in for the lottery.

so now it's down to 2579 that could get a tag that didn't before.

This is assuming that the bow only guys get drawn every year. Which we know probably wouldn't happen but is a worse case scenario - or best case depending on who you ask.

126 votes casted. Of those 126 Votes, 93 are happy with the current system.

The tail does not wag the dog. Hard for people to come to the conclusion on that.

Some of the posts in this thread prove exactly what is wrong with the country. And it's spewing out of the older generations mouths!
How dare someone else have something that I don't! How dare the people who were fortunate to inherited land get to pull a gratis to hunt that land! How dare someone who goes further in life than the "average" person, whether is be academically to further their career potential, or the guy who work's an extra 15hrs a week on top of his regular job, get to enjoy anymore than the guy who doesn't.

Life isn't fair, get over it

If one plays on the hypothetical that if it goes to the one tag system and those extra tags go back into the lottery. The reality is most will be doe tags which isn't what the majority wants obviously due to the leftover tags every year. Also the number going back in would be based upon harvest goals which would be smaller than the numbers thrown around in this thread. So the total buck tags going back into the lottery would be negligible considering they would be spread across the state anyways.

So based off of 2016 there was approx.
-72,000 applicants
-48,500 licenses were available total
-13,500 removed from total for gratis
-35,000 successful lottery draws
If the number of rifle licenses is determined by the deer population then the total number of allowed licenses will still be 72,000 and the 13,500 gratis tags that are taken away means another 13,500 other people will apply for lottery and very possibly there will also be more if their chosen units show to have more tag numbers than years prior. Can't really count any of the rifle/bow tag holders as a bow tag can be purchased at any point so 8,814 tags do not get thrown back into the mix. If going to a 1 tag system where population determines the total number of tags available where there is no gratis and a bow tag is no longer over the counter you possibly will now have more people entering the ring for rifle so the % odds decrease again in that situation or all bow hunters would need to have their OTC tags purchased by the end of day when lottery applications are in so that they can be equally used in the population equation which again will decrease the number of tags available which again decreases the successful rifle %.
I think I made sense or maybe not, it's Monday and way too many scenario possibility so whatever.

I'm no expert on the gratis system, but couldn't Davey and his wife each transfer their gratis tags to their kids if they want to hunt?

From what I understand about that - it would depend on if the children reside with them and are claimed by the parents as dependents

All I requested is to leave the bow as is and let me hunt in peace but some of those older generation ruin it for the rest of us middle age hunters.
Think they should get it all and not work for it. Unbelievable simply unbelievable. damn old farts. db
