We will see how law enforcement handles this one. If he was breaking laws, which i believe he was, he needs to pay the consequences for his actions. He seems bat shit crazy
I don’t know this person, Ive been gone from the area long enough to not know many new faces. After listening to the video it sounds like he panicked because he heard the word “bear” and went into operation kill it mode. Im not particularly buying the story told either. The bear would have moved on within a day if left alone. Seems he was treating it as an active threat. Very concerned the bear was going to bust down his neighbors door and slaughter everyone within a mile. I think he took the movie “cocaine bear” figuratively…..

If you see a skunk walking in the ditch, do you just blow it a kiss and drive on by. It's doing nothing wrong. It's 2 miles from anyone or anything.
Skunks and coons out during the day are gonna get shot by me. They are mostly nocturnal animals and rabies carriers so out during daylight hours is a red flag to me. Killed plenty of them and guarantee most were likely rabid.

Wasn't directed at you. Just adding to the previous quote from the regs as it wasn't clear to me if black bears were protected furbearers and had to look it up.
20.1-07-03. Fur-bearing animals which are protected not to be taken or disturbed during closed seasons. No person may hunt, shoot, trap, or take, in this state, any furbearer, except during the open or lawful season thereon as established under section 20.1-07-04 or 20.1-08-02.

I watched the mow down video again ans rhat bear looks awefully small next to that car. Maybe the size of a tire or a bit bigger. He was scared of a yearling 85lb bear? This guy heard bear, reacted without a brain and went kill crazy. Makes me wonder what would happen if he saw red and reacted to a human interaction that went south. Just based off the video Theres at least 5-6 possible charges not to mention if the field is seeded yet or not. I know it’s definitely not his field.

This, 100%. The bear was 1/2 mile out in a field with no old folks or children anywhere in sight. The video explanation/confession was made once he realized he fucked up in some CRAZY attempt to cover his ass after the fact.

If it was at the fence smelling the kids he has a reason. In the field not much of one. Makes you wonder how many bears are killed in states with a high density of bears and daycares . A little discretion can go a long ways.
There are a lot of scenarios that could lead someone to shoot and kill the bear. I have no idea what these circumstances were. I can think of many that could lead to the final video, but yes the finality of the bear looks bad, and is bad. Maybe this guy did call the wardden and he did nothing. Maybe it's not the first time he had issues with this bear, all we know is we have a bad looking video.

A bear in the middle of the field there are 0 circumstances really i can only think of a few circumstances that would warrant killing the bear hell even in griz country they just dont shoot them because you can see them and they will fuck some shit up not like a 85 pound yearling black bear. The rez dogs in ft yates are more dangerous than that bear in the middle of the field

Also again not a bear expert but from my understanding as explained to me by someone who is an expert on bears …..east of us bears are pretty much fat deer….. they are almost exclusively herbivores and rely on berries, acorns and agricultural crops. Personally I’d be more scared of a moose than a bear in the woods unless it was a sow with cubs and you were in the middle. Out west is where the black bears will eat elk and deer fawns from what I’ve been told by another beer expert on that side of us. So the felt “threatened” thing to me sounds a bit far fetched.
Bears are opportunistic feeders. They'll eat anything they see as an "easy meal" and it doesn't matter what arbitrary line on a map contains them. Bears in MN will eat deer. Bears in MT eat a lot of berries. Black Bear Boars will kill/eat bear cubs in order to put the mother back in heat so as to breed her. Thinking that a bear in ND is any more or less dangerous than a bear in MT/ID or NC/VA would be flawed. Bears are bears.

I do my very best to kill the skunk. You can substitute skunk for Raccoon, Badger, Porcupine, or Coyote and the answer is still the same. Though I've never run any of them down purposely with a vehicle of any sort. Not even rabbits when I had a snowmobile.

Ive been told fist hand by someone who has witnessed thousands of bears shot and killed over 30 plus years in mn that while they are opportunistic they very rarely go after deer or elk or any other meat sources in MN other than beavers. I again had a a person with similar experience in ID tell me they want to kill every last bear because they actually stalk and kill newborn elk and deer fawns yearly. Does that mean they only eat meat? Does that mean mn bears only eat plants…..I understand they are opportunistic omnivores…..So are raccoons. I’ll trust the guys in the field everyday and do it for a living. Im not saying there’s an arbitrary line on a fucking map. Assuming what I hear is correct with knowledgeable people it’s safe to assume the energy needed to kill something isnt worth it east of ND with ample vegetation/berries and acorns….. Conversely killing elk and deer is worth it out west likely beicase of a less abundant food source especially in spring when fawns ans placenta are abundant but berries not so much….. it’s different terrain, elevations and ecosystems….so a bear is not a bear……A grizzly, polar, and black are nowhere near the same and to think otherwise is pretty foolish. I guarantee you if you could walk up to rhat bear in the video( unlikely as it would be scared of humans) you could kick it in the head and tell it to scram. It’s nothing more than a big raccoon.

Yearling bear recently "kicked out of the nest" may be just 1 notch down the pole from momma separated from cubs in dangerousity.

The vid in the OP is ugly. I know less than 0 about the back story, haven't and probably won't go looking for the "explanation" from the guy who killed the bear. I caught the snippets through this thread that he saw it as a threat to people.

Given the G&F history regarding large predators that supposedly "aren't here" IE Mountain lions, it's hard to blame a guy for doing what he thinks needs done when his concerns seemed to have fallen on deaf ears.
