I had a 2014 3.5L got around 15 to 16 mpg empty and only 8 pulling boat. Mine would give random misfires when driving on highway in heavy rain. Makes a guys nervous. Had plenty of power but felt soft to me with my boat on back. Guys I've talked to seem to like the 5.0 better for fuel milage with the speeds we drive here in ND.

Had the Ford 3.7 eco. Bought it new, started to have power issues when trying to accelerate around the 75k mile mark. Traded it in for the Toyota tundra and couldn't be happier. Dealer knew about my issues before trade in. I wasn't going to sell private party because of the issues. Wont go back to a Ford after having my Tundra now, if I did I wouldn't go with the Ecoboost!! I see more and more Tundras around.

How would you compare the pulling power of the 2 trucks? What size motor in the Tundra?

Im also looking at the tundra, what are you getting for MPG, and How are you coping with the really small cargo box. The one this I like most about the Ford is the Keyless entry Pad and the extra cargo space. And yes I know I can always pull a trailer!..

I REALLY want a 3.5 ecoboost, but in a different package, with skidplates, AWD, big-ass brakes, and beefed up suspension.

This is to the ASS Surburban that was on I29 today ---- you learned a lesson -- 1st that i have a different rear end then most ecos do and second you learned that at a cruise speed of 79mph you have no power with the brand new surbuban that you are driving. So i am in traffic 4 semis ahead and in the passing lane-- surburban comes up and basically rides my ass. I thought ok i will get in the driving lane and he will pass before the next semi-- i do so and the next thing he hangs back purposely and rides my left back until the next semi then when i slow down he slows down -- i speed up and he speeds up -- Turbos kick in bye bye fckr. He hung for a second or two and then hung his his head cus he known he been beat.

the eco did pull better. The Tundra pulls what I need it to with no issues. The eco did a much better job at holding RPMs in hills and against a strong wind. That is the one thing I will say it did an amazing job of. My Tundra has 5.7L V8 381HP

My average is 14.8. That is 16 months without resetting. Actually very similar to what I got with the eco. The eco was way over rated for better gas mileage. My cargo box in the Tundra is the same as with the Ford I had. 5.5'. I didn't have the long cargo in the ford. I love the 36 gallon fuel tank on my Tundra. Ford has both a large and small so have to watch out for that.

I'm wondering why you guys don't get the fuel economy. I haven't reset mine in two months so it includes a LOT of idle time and it's at 18.7 mpg right now. 3.55 gears.

Mine is at 17.5 over the last 350 miles. The speed at which I travel makes quite a difference in the mpg. If I am forced to go say, 60 mph, the mileage is 20ish.....going 75 and it drops down to 16ish. I believe my gears are 3.31.

Do you have to run higher octane gas in them? Rode in a newer one recently and was impressed. The owner claimed it got in the low 20's on the highway.

I have had the 2.7 eco for the past year and had a 5.0 v8 prior to that. I get about 4-5 mpg better mileage with the 2.7 and a lot more accelleration. No difference in power when towing by boat or camper. The 2.7 actually gets better mileage when towing. The biggest different I noticed was the mileage on the 2.7 (aluminum body) is really affected by wind -- both good and bad depending on the direction you are driving.

My brother has the 3.5 and likes it. I wouldn't get the 5.0 again; the ecoboost is really nice when you need to accellerate. Especially on the highway.

Have a 2005 f250 (soon to be a collector) 5.4 with manual 6 speed. With palomino slide in camper and pulling 16.5 alumacraft I get 12 to 13 and empty 18 if I keep my foot out of it and drive speed limit. Yeah I get passed a lot but it was paid for a long long time ago and I got a lot more jingle in my pocket. 12 years old and has 59,000 on it and plugs were changed before they became an issue. I will use it until the old folks hotel take it away.:;:thumbsup

I just run your normal 87 octane with 10% corn thru mine. I imagine better fuel would get better mileage but than it costs more to begin with so probably a wash.

I run 87 without ethanol. I'm told by a good friend in the industry that the EB doesn't like ethanol and I don't like using my dollar votes to support corn ethanol.

If you go 50 to 55 mph then yeah you'll get around to 20mpg with the eco....who goes 50-55mph these days besides granny and gramps. Would run 87 no ethanol almost all of time in my eco (as I do with tundra) and the only time i was getting good mileage (18mpg or better) was with the wind on my A$$.

If Speed Limit was 55 mph - I would run 62-65
If 65 mph - I would run 70-75
If 70mph - I would run 76ish
If 75 mph - I would run 80-81
So this explains why I would never get the "20 mpg" with my Eco prior to selling it. In the city i didn't drive around like an old grandpa either I guess. Same goes with my tundra for all the above stats, I would say i averaged 1mpg better with the eco vs my tundra(maybe 2, no more though).

The stats the advertise on TV for mpg a lot of times are for 2WD pick ups, who buys those anyway. Anytime you read the window sticker take the low number and that will be your closer to your mpg

I believe gearing makes a huge difference as well. Which is kind if a catch im sure those ratings are with the 3.15 axles which are great if your never going to tow anything. Most are running the 3.55 or 3.75 axles wich are better for towing but you loose MPG.
