FPD may try to settle, but I hope the lawyers don't take it. This is such an obvious oversight and overreach of our police department and AI. Hell, the former police chief resigned immediately before the news of this broke. He knew he was f'd. This trial could set a precedence for the entire nation as far as steps and dos/don'ts when it comes to facial recognition and other such computer/AI programs.

Knowing those dirty SOB's they'll want to take this to trial just to put that poor woman through even more. She's already suffering PTSD from the ordeal and they'll threaten to take it to trial to try to get her to settle so she doesn't have to testify.

Whatever the financial compensation to the woman ends up being there should be significant financial counseling for the lady from Tennessee with fees paid by whomever the judgement is against. It would be a shame for the woman to end up right back to broke again.

After watching two different news reports to make sure they said the same thing, I think the $10 million is compensatory and she could also be awarded punitive damages by the judge/jury.
The fact that some of the bank fraud she was accused of happened in West Fargo's jurisdiction and they refused to charge her and arrest her because they had a written AI and facial recognition policy in place and it would have violated it is pretty damning for Fargo.
