I had a FL-8, 18 and now a 28. The 18 was a huge improvement over the 8: brighter, zoom.
The 28 is only moderately better than the 18: night mode, digital depth
I am not aware of big improvements between the 30 and 28

I’ve found when fishing with a bunch of people close to each other and a hard rocky bottom the 28s and 30s do a way better job than my 18 and 20 when it comes to interference.

even when you cycle through the various frequencies?

I know people with the older Marcums used to laugh when they turned theirs on and it wiped all the Vexilars off the map 😄

Got a 30 two winters ago. The Vexilar guy at Scheels ice fest couldn't believe it when I told him I hate it compared to my Humminbird Ice 55 that went down. After he tried to debunk all my complaints his answer was to get the new upgraded 35 or whatever it is, i asked him what he would give me to trade up, no dice. I have most of my problems when I hole hop, have to power cycle sometimes between holes, really sucks when I finally get my settings the way I want them and loose them if I have it in the wrong mode. I'm a freaking technology guy and it's almost too complicated for me
Basically if you got an 18 that works good for you then stick it out until you can't fix it.

I have seen and caught lots of fish with a FL-8. Now have the 28 and 8. If in less than 20 feet of water I like my 8. Maybe because I'm not a techy person.

I sure like my hummingbird 55 also. I know it doesn't have as good of target seperation as the fl 18 but it works good for me.
Yeah for not having "as good of separation " I sure have laid the smack down on anyone with a Vex fishing with me. Hopefully my 55 is just a transducer issue, the horrible Humminbird support finally sent me a new transducer that is supposed to be the correct one.

Yes. The 28 and 30 are way better. Marcuns and some others will fuck it up for everyone but if you have a bunch of people close, the 28s and 30s will be way better than an 18 or 20.

For walleye fl18 and up models, target seperation is .75" fl8 2.5"s,one had to pay close attention to his fl8 for the slightest red line wiggle for bottom hugging eyes,it works but a whole gooder with flasher zoom.

Also,a group fishing 2 or 3 flashers w/o a dual ice ducer it's best for all but one flasher turn i/r off and have the one flasher with i/r engaged scroll thru interference settings for all, works next to perfect if everyone has proper gain setting.

IDK why anyone would waste money on any of these flashers if they have any type of modern graph. Go buy the ice ducer, a lithium battery, and a Genz box or build your own box. It'll work just as well and will be cheaper.
