Ford Expedition vs F150???

We have an Expedition in the EL (extra long) configuration here at work that I drive on occasion. They are fine vehicles but I'd take a 4 door pickup over them any day of the week, and twice on the weekends. I like the longer wheelbase!

I have two kids and my girlfriend has another two. When we travel together, we use either my 4 door pickup with three kids in the back seat and one up between us in the front, or we take my Toyota 4Runner. The downside to the 4Runner is it's a smaller (mid-size) framed SUV even though it has the 3rd row seating. We are comfortable in the 4Runner until we need to take luggage, absolutely no room for all 6 of us and luggage on the interior. So I bought a luggage carrier for the roof rack and we are back to comfy. I kinda figure as the kids get older (currently all four are 9-11 yrs old) that I'll need to upgrade to either the Expedition EL or a Suburban for my commuter so they have more room to stretch out.

Besides, the new Expeditions with the Ecoboost are some damn expensive rides! You can get a hell of a lot more truck than Expedition for the same price the last time I looked and along with that will come the longer wheelbase which is more comfortable for towing.

On a side note, when I don't have the kids I have taken the 4Runner hunting. With the rubber mat in place there's no problem with hauling dead deer or my dog. Without the mat the dog hair in the carpet sucks like you wouldn't believe until you experience it for yourself.

If I were you and had to choose a single vehicle, I would get or stay with the 4 door truck and make sure the front seat is a bench seat with a fold up console so you can squeeze a kid up there with you when needed.

I currently have the 2010 F250 6.4L twin turbo fog machine for myself but got the wife a 2017 3.5L twin turbo ecoboost Lincoln navigator (expedition basically)... not going to lie I like driving that navigator more than my truck and it will get me a speeding ticket almost as fast

my work truck is a 2014 chevy 1/2 ton and I am not a big fan of it... 74k miles and I've had to replace the radiator and hoses, AC condenser, and the shift linkage broke once, all of the chevy/gmc 1/2 tons at work have all had the same problems (if the bumper has the old man step in the corner), the few fords we have have been good, some of the first ecoboosts had issues with the spark plugs but that was a fairly simple fix, all the chevy 3/4 and 1 tons (vortec motors) have seemed to do well lately

2010 F250 (very modified) 18 highway - 12 town and towing - averages 14.5
2017 navigator (not modified or chipped) - 14.5 average
2014 chevy 1/2 ton - 12 mpg average (does a lot of idling but I've never gotten better than 14 on the highway)

If you have a newer F250 and you can reach the bottom of your truck bed through your flip up topper windows you must be 7' tall with orangutan arms. Which, would explain some of your fish pictures.

the engine on the one she found is a 3.5L V6 Twin Turbo?? I feel like I need a v8 for towing... towing specs are 6000lbs capacity ....

I have had a 2012 F-150 supercrew with the 3.5L ecoboost for a couple years and we just bought the wife a 2014 expedition with the 5.4L. I can tell you that the 3.5L is EXCELLENT for towing. You will have no power issues at all. What are you towing? The 3.5 L will outperform the 5.4L for towing. Gas mileage on our Expedition is worse than my pickup. Although, the 3.5L Ecoboosts are not as good as advertised either... so do not plan on getting much better with the 3.5L on the Expedition. They are big, heavy vehicles.

I would prefer the pickup for hunting and fishing, but an Expedition will do. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I have an 01 expidition and pull a 30 foot camper with a slide out no problem. I am not winning any speed races by any means but I have all the power I need. Gets through snow real good. Haven't had to do anything to it other than alternator and fuel pump. Has 180000 miles on it

Wife has a Navigator and I have a F150. The Navigator wins hands down with comfort and stability on slippery roads. You loose clearence though. Im not sold on the air susspensions especialy for towing. When they can handle the load they are great! I had a car full (9 ) of some fairly over weight people coming back from the cities. The ruff roads and added weight kept setting of a alarm and the air system would shut down. It was like driving on the bump stops the whole way. A light boat may not be a problem but I definatly would not push the tongue weight limits. To fix anything on the air system cost 1grand or youncan convert it to a normal strut system for the same. For most activities the hatch stoage is acceptable if not better than a truck bed. When you need to actually haul somthing youll miss the truck bed. The 3.5 eco is a bad ass engine Ive pulled a 30' fifth wheel and 17.5 lund behind it and still have to be carefull not to speed. At the end of the day they are great vehicals so get mama what she wants!

The only time I ever got the Nav stuck was parking in about a foot of snow. When you park the air system partially deflates. If it does this and sets the fram on snow you screwed. I had the entire fram set down in the snow and the freeze. The air system wouldt sense enough weight and fill back up.

As the past owner of a Suburban and present owner of a crew cab pickup, I'll tell you there are a number of differences. If it's for hauling people, the SUV is better. If you're hauling bulky stuff, it's the pickup. Highway cruising is much better in the SUV. For towing, the SUV will be more stable because it's heavier. The SUV will typically cost a lot more. Off-road, there's a complication, which is the smart 4X4 system in most Expeditions. They can't be towed without serious damage to the drivetrain. Don't ask the salesman, he only knows what his commission will be on a sale. Ask the service manager, and if he says it can be towed ask for that in writing. The few Expeditions I see behind tow trucks in Fargo/Moorhead have the rear wheels on a dolly, the front wheels are elevated by the tow truck. The salesman that sold us my wife's Honda Pilot last March told me to treat that SUV the same way.
You can get a pickup with a variety of interiors, but all big SUVs I see are luxury vehicles, not the best for dogs, etc. Our carpeted Suburban needed to be vacuumed from one end to the other after every trip to a boat ramp. My wife was pleased with our present less luxurious pickup, no carpet at all.
it's up to you and your family, but I'll add that I think any 1/2T pickup is kind of car with a box. I'd compare the different capabilities of an Expedition to a 3/4T crew pickup, and stay out of the option list with the pickup.

The doc said I was 6' 1" on my last visit. I don't think my arms a very long, but they are hairy. I just have a 1/2 ton GMC, but a bucket or a small step stool to keep in the back would fit the bill. Until I can con my boys into crawling up in the topper, the flip sides are a life saver.

Well we didn't go and get a new truck.... Keeping our 13' f150... Which is fine by me lol only has 30k miles on it for being 4years old and we bought it brand new..... She'd though she had alot more equity in her car then she really does so kinda shot the whole idea down...

Anyways ... This was my day yesterday ...went with a buddy..My fish are on the left... My biggest was 13.6oz !
