I'm pretty sure the reason drywall is commonly used, is that it's cheap, and light colored. OSB is great, but no cheaper than drywall, and if you don't paint it, your garage will be as dark as it is now. OSB is tougher than drywall, for sure. But since your kids aren't likely to be shooting pucks at it any time soon (unless grandkids are around the corner), that may not be a factor for you.

Friend of mine and I put FRP in his garage a couple of years ago. Nice and white, but was not cheap. Sure looks nice though, and you can spray it and wipe it down.

Sluggo, I know a guy who has a garage pretty much exactly like yours. Come over and check it out.

You'll be amazed what a difference a coat of white paint makes.

Regarding the water aspect, I only wash mine out maybe twice a summer (mostly after it dries up in the spring). I haven't found any water damage yet.

If I had a floor drain, I'd wash the crud off the floor periodically throughout the winter, but.. sigh..

I just can't get over the look of the OSB, just looks cheap to me (yeah i know its a garage, but still). I did drywall and painted with a semigloss light gray. Did the vinyl cove molding on bottom in a darker gray, it is super easy to install and looks good. Bought unfinished oak cabinets at Menards on sale and painted with black epoxy. Did the 8' flourescent down both side stalls and then did a ceiling fan with 4 100w led bulbs in center receptacle. If your finishing garage id rough everything in to hang a gas heater right away, and to be honest id just heat it right away, once you do you'll wonder why you waited so long.

Having about a 4' galvanized surround would be pretty damn cool, if i did anything different, i think i would look into doing something like that to protect a little more and give a unique look.

I have 1/2" OSB in mine that I primed and painted white. Looks great and I am able to drill and redrill wherever I need to. Its a garage, and I treat it as such. Not gonna worry about a few screw holes or a tiny gap between seams. Just my opinion.

in this process now. built the garage with 9 ft side walls so I could use 8 inch grooved 5/8 plywood put a 1x12 cedar board on the bottom and am trimming doors and windows with cedar. Will seal the bottom cedar board with clear coat flex seal to prevent water damage hopefully.

I hate doing dry wall so willing to spend a bit more for the grooved plywood. Looks pretty good. Ceiling will be white/light colored
tin.

If you have not insulated yet check into foam. Have 2x8 side walls on a story and a half garage that is 36 x 44 that we heat with two milk house heaters till it is finished with floor heat. Have about 5 inches of foam in the walls and about 7 in the ceiling.
