Just don't use too much at a time. Maybe an inch at the most and till in. You can till more in in-between the rows when plants are larger. Had a friend that put 6 inches of turkey crap on and nothing grew for three years.

I haul water where I am and will be having at least one more surgery this summer so a garden is out for this year.

I am taking notes for something like a small raised bed for next year. I'm still getting temos down in the high teens and low 20's here. How do you guys work with that?

I was tilling my garden today and these little buggers showed up. Let me get to less than ten yards. One of them had a beard that was nearly dragging on the ground. Zero respect for these critters being any type of challenge.

there's something seriously wrong with this group of toms - walked in on them again today and got to within 5 yards. They were so busy strutting that they didn't even know I was there. Buddy's 10 year old just couldn't get the .410 lined up before they scooted off. Fun to see a young hunter get fired up like that. Until I hunt them somewhere else, I'll maintain my zero respect stance !!

So I got most everything in with the exception of most of my peppers and tomatoes. I had some extra of both that I decided to stick in the ground just to see what happens since I would've thrown them away anyways. I also went a little crazy and made about 100 gallons of fish fertilizer. I had been saving the guts (about 25lbs) from all of the fish I've caught so far this spring. I separated the guts from the carcasses and then froze them in bags. They looked like frozen chum for ocean fishing almost. I then put the frozen guts and water in a 5 gal pail and mixed with my drill using a mixer attachment to create a nice slurry. The mixture then got dumped into the rows on top of the seedlings that had just been planted. I also used the carcasses/heads and laid them in with my taters. It wasn't quite as nasty as I had expected, but my wife sure thought so. Hopefully this gives them a little boost. Dig the night crawlers from the garden to catch the fish that fertilizes the plants that feed my family. Circle of life man.

Even though it didn't freeze this weather certainly will set peppers and tomatoes back. Peppers for about two weeks. Soil temps are still very cool. Of course there are exceptions but for the most part this is why the end of May is a great time to plant.

Anyone ever try this route? Since the pics I have another zone in with one more to go. Me and my neighbor put this in this year. First garden. The bed is 22' x 36'. So far we have corn, potatoes, beans, garlic, strawberries, onions, and carrots planted. Still have tomatoes, peppers, and cukes to put in. The cukes will be trellised to grow up instead of out.
