Gas went up 20 cents over the course of the last 2 days

Going to be interesting to see how much profit the oil companies and refineries make this year.

They’re definitely the one’s who are winning. Diesel prices are nuts too. Everything we get comes on trucks. Pretty easy to see why stuff keeps going up in price.

It seems to me that refining would be where the big profit is

Yes, refiners do well when price of oil is most volatile.

Also, as farmers well know, the price of a given commodity is not controlled by the producer. The producer is at the whims of the supply and demand market, but of all those involved here with energy...I am guessing it's the refiners that do more studying of the economics of consumer driven fuel pricing. Again, using farming as an analog, when farming and oil are good...it can be damn good if you can take advantage of the market. Everyone seems to forget that the last time Trump was in office, what may have been 3 of the top oil producers (Denbury, Oasis, and Whiting) in ND went bankrupt. Denbury eventually got bought out by Exxon, and Whiting and Oasis merged after their respective reorganizations from bankruptcy to form Chord Energy.

In these persistent high price environments, the biggest oil companies tend to do very well as they have economies of scale and degrees of freedom the small (sub $10 billion) oil companies do not enjoy. Smaller companies usually have around 85-90% of their production hedged going out a few years (this is demanded of them by banks when they seek operating loans. So, they aren't reaping it in like the big guys Chevron, Shell, Exxon, etc who hedge little to nothing in pricing. I would expect with the cash those big guys are making right now that they will use it to buy some of those smaller companies when the price of oil falters and subtracts a decent amount of value from their ledgers.

If Trump eventually gets his way (changing of leadership in Tehran), the price of oil will fall through the floor. It just may take a little time to accomplish this.

Well, with as much as Iran encourages its citizens to believe the U.S. is the Great Satan, it is also in the best interest of Americans to not have a nuclear armed Iran. Whether you refuse to believe it or not, the U.S. also has as much of an interest in regime change in Iran as Israel.

The politicians of a nuclear armed Iran would have a lot to answer to their citizenry if they did not use it on everyone they've been chanting death to over the years. Since this is Islam we are talking about, they only care about killing us infidels...they don't really care about the consequences since they've been promised 72 virgins.

Im sure they will find that enriched nuclear material right after the weapons of mass destruction they found in Iraq. Oh ya that’s the nuclear material we obliterated a year ago.

Was going to fill up in devils lake @ 3.98 but decided to grab a bite to eat first, gasp went up to 4.10 while I was eating. Parked my Diesel pickup 1.00 a gallon ago. All this winning is a hard pill to swallow.

Traded trucks a couple years ago and decided to try the GMC 3.0 Duramax rather than the 5.3 that I had in last several trucks. Average 27+ on highway and 17+ pulling a glass boat. $6 gallon diesel does not pencil out very well.

Bismarck gas prices were all over the place yesterday and they are typically the same to the penny to the minute. Yesterday some jumped from 3.99 to 4.19. Some held at 4.09 and one dropped from 4.19 to 3.99.

IDK pencils out just fine TBH, 28mpg vs 20 mpg pans out to damn near the same cost per mile for fuel. $0.0205/mile for $4.10/gal unleaded versus $0.20/mile for $5.60 diesel.

My old 1/2 ton with a leveling kit and larger tires got 15-16 mpg tops, my 26' F250 diesel has been getting a consistent 21-22 mpg. The cost is higher compared to yours but but they both come out at $0.25 per mile for fuel.

It’s been that way for roughly the last 6 mos- a year. Not sure what changed. Mandan has typically been about a nickel to a dime cheaper a gallon in that time. If you leave and head east it’s usually a quarter to dollars a gallon cheaper starting in Sterling.

THIS is why millionaires and billionaires donate 10’s and 100’s of millions of dollars to politicians. It surely isn’t for lower prices.
