Backup generators large enough to run your house when you loose power for a few days. A few friends I know have propane/natural gas that come on automatically when you loose power. We are thinking of that also. I am just starting to research now.

So what are any of you using? And are you happy with it. THX.

Propane/Nat'l gas is the only way I'd do it, unless I farmed and used enough diesel to keep it fresh. Fuel stability is the Achilles-Heel of everything that isn't propane/Nat'l gas.

I know one guy who has a Nat'l Gas Onan hooked up in town. The only others I know of are on farms and they run BIG generators off of the PTO of a tractor or have big diesel generator/welder combo units on a trailer they can hook up reasonably quickly.

We have a Generac Guardian 24 KV at farm. Runs on LP. Fortunately we have never had to rely on it for extended periods of time. Very happy with it so far. We also have an 8 kv champion duel fuel that is portable. Great little portable power source. I only use LP and have never filled the gas tank so no worries with fuel going bad. Both are fairly quiet.

I bought one last fall as 2 neighbors have the same and like them. It was a 3 month wait so it's still in the shop in the box.

Zogman we had six circuits wired in our house. I only have a 3000 Honda, but it will run the furnace fan, freezer. refrigerator and televisions. Our electric furnace has 1000 lb of ceramic bricks that supposedly hold heat for three days. We have a gas fireplace with fan in the basement family room, and an efficient wood fireplace upstairs so if the furnace fan circulates air we csn stay warm and entertained. We have been set up for ten years, but have only run it twice to check it out. Any time we turn on the generator breaker box it disconnects from the service as required.

Better to have more KW's than you need than having a unit too small.

Such is like many things in life! ;:;rofl

The installation completed today. Generac 18KW natural gas. Wi Fi compatible, however they were out of the chip so that is on back order. The persons from Century Electric here in GF were awesome to deal with. Very professional and extremely knowledgeable. Happy, Happy, Happy.
