We ended up right around 10# after day one with 4 fish. Caught around 20 but set our minimum at 16". The 4 we weighed were 17-21". Caught a 15" with 10 minutes left before check in and tossed it back. Was pretty disappointed it wasn't at least an inch longer. Oh well. Today we were the last flight out and fished for about 40 minutes before the shitstorm started. We had lightning to the north, south and west of us and it was getting too close for my comfort so I decided to head in. Kind of bummed because we had 2 fish on that we lost, one was a nice fish and also missed a few in just 40 minutes. Wind and rain don't bother me but with lightning going on way too close to us it just wasn't worth it. Oh well, maybe next time. Feel pretty decent about our first day being that we didn't do any pre fishing and I have only fished sak 2 times this year and my partner hadn't even fished even once anywhere this year before Friday.
Congrats to the winners and everyone else who did well. They definitely earned it. Also, thanks to all the volunteers and Jim Carroll. This tourney runs pretty smooth thanks to them. Also, Jim Carroll just makes you excited about the weigh ins just through his enthusiasm. He made the weigh ins more entertaining than they normally are.
Tough going out there today I bet. Every year I hone in on this tournament thinking this is the year that someone really gets into some nice fish but it never happens, Anyone think she will ever come back to the level of production we saw in the late 70s early 80s ?
Do they let you go back out if you come in because of weather? If it clears up I don't see why not.
The rules state that you can't leave your boat during the tourney. They have said at rules meetings that you can pull up on shore to ride out storms but I'm not sure that you can trailer your boat and then come back in. I think people would complain about that one. Don't know though.
Kurt, you can put 8 in your livewell and weigh 5. Every year I see 10 fish for 8-10 pounds and some 2 fish for 1.5 pounds. A couple years ago there was a 1 fish for .38 pounds basket. Not sure why people would want to weigh such small fish but to each their own.
