hey gst, that rancher was my stepdad. I lived there in the summer. He had no daughters.

He died of cancer.

Jot all these notes down so you can weave them into some disgustingly personal slam comment to me later.

Oh wait, you don’t have to jot them down. You were born to taunt/ridicule and have a photographic memory for it.

PUKE.

Everyone needs to knock it off. Having a disagreement over policy is one thing.........

Guywhofishes in another thread mentioned supporting properly managed grass. Let's start there. The new Farm Bill is being constructed and there is scuttlebutt about raising the cap on CRP acres. If we learned anything from the massive CRP program from 1998 to 2008, there was a huge exodus of young people who left agriculture and right now there are many kids in school for agronomy who probably won't find a job in their chosen profession if a bunch of land goes into CRP.

Delta Waterfowl is working on a better idea. Pay a few bucks to turn cropland into grassland. It can be hayed and grazed. Just not too short. 25 year contract. Delta says these lands produce way more ducks than CRP. We all know there was sod busted that should not have been. (What were our grandfathers thinking?) Converting poor cropland into grass is a win win because these fields are usually the ones that Federal Crop insurance pays more claims to resulting in a savings.

I support working lands and Delta Waterfowl's idea. Yesterday was at a Farm Bureau District meeting and this was brought up. Farm Bureau supports working together with Delta Waterfowl on this.

Yes, I am about free enterprise and the market place should have corrected this problem about too much grass converted into crop. It has not and I do not have the answer.

As for PrairieGhost/Plainsman...........he is usually on the wrong side of issues. Sunshine has always proven to be a great ant-septic.

Actually your above post is the best you have made. Great idea. I have been staying out of the bickering, but since I found myself agreeing with your above post I thought I should chime in. The only thing I would disagree with is it wasn't our grandfathers that broke up to much land. They broke up the best, then the gov started making payments and poor land was broken up. Most of the worst was broken up during Reagans Payment In Kind program. Farmers got paid not to plant their crop land. So everyone signed up then rushed out and broke up their pasture and hay land. The program was supposed to work with the free market reducing the glut and raising the price, but we had record production.

My condolences for the loss of your step Dad, cancer is a terrible thing to have to deal with, I know, as I have watched as family members have died and most recently my Mom beat it for the 2nd time.

Guy take the time to actually go back to that thread and read the post I made in response to your statement about corn being raised in western ND. It was simply a post made with information as to how things have changed and why. No snide comment no taunting, no ridiculing. no personal slams no kneejerk reaction.........at least in what I posted.....just a simple explanation of why corn is being raised in western ND now when it wasn;t in the days you may have been going back for a few months out of the year to help on a ranch.

Corn was not grown in the Dickinson area when I went to school out their in the mid 80s. I assume because nobody was silly enough then to expect a decent corn crop?

New crop genetics, retarded ethanol program, and a favorable wet cycle and boom - tons of corn growing in western ND.

One dry year and BAM - corn crops failed - OMG!!!

There is a fair bit of management and work that goes into properly managing grass to get the most out of it. Those require "input/effort" ESPECIALLY in a drought.

There are growing numbers of feedlots in ND especially western ND where the cows are. Those cows on that grass raise calves that need ot be fed. Those calves need feed stuffs grown ot be fed. So you see corn planted where it traditionally has not been. Drought tolerant varieties no till technologies..most years it works. Farming is funny in that you can;t control Ma Nature so nothing is guaranteed.

GST, for the most part I agree with the content or actual information that you post. However, your delivery of the content sucks. It should be obvious to you by now that people don't understand you humor or sarcasm, so just stop with that crap already. I agree plainsman has been part of some ridiculous agendas to hurt the relationships between landowners and outdoorsman, but it's time to stop bringing it up in every single thread that comes up. Let the past be the past. I would ignore you but you do post some interesting info on occasion. My 2 cents.

My guess is that a few people do understand my humor or sarcasm as most all my friends do as I understand theirs. My friends would see the irony/humor of a person that lead the charge on banning deer farms enjoying a sammich made from a farmed deer. Perhaps I should have asked if Roger Kaseman would enjoy one instead.

The ones that don;t on here just seem to be a bit louder sometimes.

Was thinking about this driving today. There was a reason I posted the video of the Berkely protest. Ben Shapiro is someone that has a different base of ideals than the typical Berkeley student and that particular university. He backs those ideals up with fact and truth when he speaks. But more and more people don't want anyone to tell them the truth about things. Just like in that video people will attack the messenger instead of accepting the message and learn the truth.

People would rather claim Ben Shapiro, a Jewish man, is a neo Nazi than accept what he is sharing is the truth. They would rather accept the fake news the media feeds them because it fits what they believe than learn or acknowledge the truth. They would rather perpetuate a lie than accept the truth.

So instead of simply not listening or not attending the speech, a group of Berkeley students decided to protest and personally attack the individual rather than allow him to share the truth and fact they did not want to hear.

More and more of America is getting that way.
