Fbs and Fcs -- then comes in a a guy with 175 bored --- he would win all the tourneys --- and he would steal the spotlight from the sparkles. Go bison!!!

If you need a handicap, maybe you shouldn't fish tourneys. Besides, the world needs gatherer's too. Not every man can be on the top of the food chain.

This is just MY personal opinion. As a guy with 3 size classes of boats in my yard or on order. I do not want some arbitrary handicap sent my way to either my benefit or my detriment. If a tourney organizer wants a tourney with rules set for HP max or min; I can find a boat to fit. If someone doesn't like the HP restrictions they need not apply.

Don't agree with the handicap idea. You can do well with a small boat or big boat. For years I had a 18ft. boat with a 140hp and did well. About 8 years ago everyone started to get bigger and faster boats. It was to the point that I was close to the slowest boats out there. So a few years back I switched to a 21ft. with 300hp because I did not want my boat to limit where I could or would fish. What I do dislike is tourneys with unlimited boundaries. I feel these tourneys open the door for cheating. Also they for sure put the odds of doing well in the favor of guys with a big new boat that is willing to put some abuse on his rig. I never have been a fan of the PWT or NWT tourneys that don't have boundaries. Most of the guys that win those drive their boat 50 plus miles from the boat dock. When you are catching fish that are not available to the other 90% of anglers that is not skill. I have a rig that can do the long distance hi speed run but I am not going to abuse my boat and engine like that. I can't imagine what a 50 mile run each way does to your motor. I guess it does not matter if you trade every couple of years. Anyways the best tourneys are the ones with reasonable boundaries so everyone has the same chance at the same fish. That way actual fishing skill is a big reason for doing well.

Yeah yeah yeah.... And I bet they all get a participation prize too. Last I checked the REAL golf tourneys and REAL horse races don't have handicaps. :)

I play in some golf tournament as well as matches that handicaps are frequently used. Handicaps are not based on the color or cost of your clubs or what type of ball is used. Handicaps are used to basically start everyone out on the same level. Handicaps, as many of you who also play golf know, are established by recording your actual score every time you play a round. A standard is then set based on that score compared to par. So, if I am a 12 handicap and you are a 15, to make us even in a match you would receive 3 strokes to make us even.

Now, imagine that in a fishing tournament. Every time you fish you would be required to weigh every fish you caught and record that weight at the end of the day. Then when you and I are fishing in a tournament if your average catch for each day you fish is 21# and I usually catch a couple 1 pounders for an average of 2#, I would start the day with 19# to make us even if we both catch our average.

Might be interesting and you think there is some cheating going on now, imagine the lies fisherman would come up with when recording what they caught, not just what they brought to the dock.

I wonder how many pages of comments we could get on NDA when everybody's average catch is updated every two weeks. #$%^&> Never caught a fish all day, honest.

Perhaps handicap was the wrong verbiage..perhaps not...perhaps different HP motor class is a better CONCEPT of what might be tried..perhaps not. MY OPINION on this is that maybe ..just maybe.. there might be more PARTICIPANTS...thats right, i said PARTICIPANTS, if there were more classes so to speak.....unless i am mistaken, ORGANIZERS of said tourneys USUALLY would like to see MORE PARTICIPANTS and crowds ONE CONCEPT MIGHT BE to offer more CLASSES based on HP..no handicap then..just enter a class based on your HP...different separate entry fee with payouts based on those entered in that particular class.just a idea folks. Don't throw the book at me cuz of some banter me and a couple buddies thought up over a few blue num nums..geez..it might just be a good idea!
Bring the winner of class 1 up on stage with his/her winning weight(separate purse money of course) and winner of class 2 up with his/her winning weight..
Ya never know..it just MIGHT HELP bring more people from being spectators or not even coming out to watch weigh in's to PARTICIPANTS
The below is just a CONCEPT..idea geez

Class 1- Motors 0-199hp
Class 2- Motors 200hp and above
Each with thier own entry fee and besides the guarantee payout for 1st for each class, the remaining payout is determined by the number of entrants in that class.
Win win..big sparkly boats and motors get seen in class 2 entrants.
Lesser boat and motor dealers get seen in class 1 entrants.
Win win..so..any debbie downers out there pooh poohing this concept?

Could even run weekly leagues or whatnot based on class, etc.

I think you're on to something 3...maybe V should "test run" the idea with an NDA tournament based on these rules...or some semblance of them...just a thought!

So.....because we may not agree we are debbie downers and are poopooing... sensitive much?

I'd like to see a tournament where they draw the fishing technique out of a hat and all participants have to use that technique for the tournament. It would make for a great competition by forcing jig fishermen to troll cranks or bb and spinner guys to bobber fish. The best all around fisherman would emerge over the specialists pretty fast I think.

Most of these ideas sound fun. Or maybe lots of fishermen are like me. Not really interested in a tournament; I just like to fish sometimes with friends or family. When the freezer is empty I like to keep some, when it's full I release them. Enjoy a few beers while cleaning the fish and it's been a good day.

Velveeta.... minus the ET
I think it's only fair for the little boats (other guys) if sparkly boat guys use kiddie fishing poles during this tournament. And you can't swap out the line, you have to use what comes on the kiddie pole.... and the little boats get a 15 minute head start at launch time. 4f2e1b7313774c4c8f071ad9ff90005a.jpg

You guys ever watch the Major League bass fishing tourneys. I love watching them. I still love regular tourneys but it would be a cool experience to fish in an event like that.

LOL The ole bathtub catches quite a few fish, and nice ones are luck of the draw, catches it's fair share. One day while breaking in the new Yamaha 15 hp I put on it, I decided I was close enough to done breaking it in and so would slow down for about 150 yds and troll cranks. Didn't bring a net because I was just breaking in the motor. I made 3 passes with about a 20 minute ride between each pass just cruising the motor between full and half throttle. I got my 5 on those 3 passes, with 3 over 20" and the other two were nice 17 or 18". I did this right in front of about 4 boats going slow with BB or Lindy rigs. With no net I just power lifted them in with the rod. The looks on those guys faces was hilarious.
